apollo lake flicking issue on Ubuntu 24.04.02 LVDS port

Hello

I get problem on Ubuntu 24.04.2 OS.

I update OS from Ubuntu 18.04 to 24.04.02 and get flicking issue. HDMI port without issue, only DP to LVDS has issue. I already do update and upgrade in the Ubuntu 24.04.2.

Does anyone face similar issue and how to fix it?

Thanks

Hi Paulhsun,

Thank you for posting in our Community. The fact that the HDMI port is working without any issues is helpful, it points to the problem being specific to the LVDS connection, potentially related to either the display drivers, configuration settings, or the way the OS interacts with your hardware post-update. To help us narrow down the issue, could you provide a bit more information? Specifically:

  • Did the OS upgrade change the kernel version? Flickering issues can sometimes arise from kernel incompatibilities.
  • Did you make any changes to your display settings in the Display Manager after the upgrade? Sometimes, screen resolution or refresh rate mismatches between the OS and hardware can cause flickering.
  • Since HDMI is working fine, could you confirm if the LVDS port is set as the primary display in your display settings? In some cases, Ubuntu might default to using an external display (HDMI) as the primary.
  • Are there any related error messages in the system logs? I'd like to delve deeper and verify specifics like the graphics models, precise driver versions, and any system errors. Utilizing the Intel SSU tool will enable me to collect detailed information about your system setup, which could aid in identifying the underlying cause of this issue.

Have a nice day!

Hi Von

Please check below.

  • Did the OS upgrade change the kernel version? Flickering issues can sometimes arise from kernel incompatibilities.
  • Yes, I think it relative to kernel and graphic.
  •
  • Did you make any changes to your display settings in the Display Manager after the upgrade? Sometimes, screen resolution or refresh rate mismatches between the OS and hardware can cause flickering.

          No

  • Since HDMI is working fine, could you confirm if the LVDS port is set as the primary display in your display settings? In some cases, Ubuntu might default to using an external display (HDMI) as the primary.

I had connected LVDS only, but it still flicking.

Below is from Intel SSU tool.

system logs command journalctl -b | grep -iE "gpu|drm|i915|error",
logs from kernal command dmesg | grep -iE "gpu|drm|i915|error|fail|nv",
and logs from xorg command cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -iE "EE|WW".

Hi Paulhsun,

Thank you for sharing the SSU logs. After reviewing the details, I found that your system is running an Intel® Atom™ Processor E3940, which includes Intel® HD Graphics 500, both of which fall under the Embedded Product line.

To ensure you receive the most accurate and specialized support for your processor and graphics configuration, I’ll be redirecting your case to our Embedded Intel Atom® Processors forum, where a dedicated team handles inquiries related to embedded solutions. You’ll be notified once the thread has been successfully moved. Please feel free to continue the discussion there, and rest assured that the appropriate team will assist you further.

Have a nice day!
