i5-4570TE thermal specs

Hi all.

We have a project on we was using i5-4590T for a time without problems. Due this processor is EOL we switch to i5-4570TE.

We select the i5-4570TE as replacement due they have the same TDP. These two processors have 35W TDP, but the second proccesor is reaching 90ºC. We are using the same heatsink that we were using with the i5-4590T.

Why this processor overheats if it has the same TDP that the previous model? Is not the TDP a valid measure of the thermal specification? There is a typo on the i5-4570TE TDP?

Thank you.

Hello, NewData :

Thank you for contacting Intel Embedded Community.

It is important to let you know that the Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590T Processor is still available. It is totally different than the Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590 Processor that has been discontinued. You can confirm this information and more differences at:

Due to this fact, could you please confirm that you need the requested information?

Waiting for your clarification.

Hello Carlos,

Thank you for your answer.

Despite the i5-4590T appears as available on ark.intel, we are unable to find it in our suppliers, so we have been forced to change the CPU.

Therefore we switch to the i5-4570TE because it is the most similar of which we have avalaibility.

But we have encountered the problem of overheatin, something that we do not understand seeing the specifications of this processor.

Thank you.

Best regards.

Hello, NewData :

Thanks for your clarification.

In order to be on the same page, could you please let us know the procedure that you have used to migrate from i5-4590T to i5-4570TE? Could you please give us the name of the place of purchase of these devices?

By the way, could you please tell us how many units have been manufactured, how many are experiencing this problem, and the failure rate?

Finally, could you please verify if the affected processors have the same topside markings? By the way, please provide pictures of them.

Waiting for your answer to these questions.

Best regards,

Hello Carlos,

We don´t use a complex procedure to do the migrate. We only select the 4570TE because it is very similar in specifications and price than the 4590T and it have better availability.

We purchased them from Advantech Europe. We also are using advantech motherboard (http://advdownload.advantech.com/productfile/PIS/AIMB-784/Product%20-%20Datasheet/AIMB-784_DS(10.06.15)20151023180958.pdf http://advdownload.advantech.com/productfile/PIS/AIMB-784/Product%20-%20Datasheet/AIMB-784_DS(10.06.15)20151023180958.pd… ) and thermal solution (1960049408N001 CPU passive heatsink for 1U chassis).

We made about 25 computers with the 4570TE, and all of them have the problem.

We have two different markings on the processors, both with the same problem. I attach a picture of them.

Note that we are using 1U passive heatsink. If I use a bigger active heatsink they work ok. But this thermal solution is enough for the 4790T and we need use the same configuration with the replacement.

Thnak you.

Best regards.

Hello, NewData:

Thanks for your reply.

The Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570TE thermal solution should be implemented using the information stated at the https://cdrdv2.intel.com/v1/dl/getContent/518804 Haswell Desktop Processors for Embedded Applications Thermal and Mechanical Design Guide [TMDG] document # 518804.

It is accessible when you are logged into your Resource & Design Center (RDC) privileged account. This type of account can be requested by filling out the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/forms/design/contact-support.html RDC Account Support form.

We hope that this information may help you.

Best regards,
