FTXL710-BM2 S LLK7 Peripheral Protocols

To whom it may concern,

We are using XL710-BM2 Ethernet controller for 40Gbps Ethernet - PCIe Gen3 conversion. This sophisticated integrated circuit has also some interconnects for MC (management controller), namely SMBus and NC-SI. What is the function of these protocols?            

Through what protocol could we use to program and configure this IC? JTAG or SPI-Flash?
