FreeBSD as GuestOS support for for SR-IOV in VMware vSphere* 6.5, 6.7, and 7.0 for icen driver

Hello support,

I have questions regarding FreeBSD as GuestOS support for for SR-IOV in VMware vSphere* 6.5, 6.7, and 7.0. I found below link on Intel support website, describing icen (E810) GOS support for VMware. However, it didn't mention any Opensource OS. Do you have any idea about if FreeBSD support on this?

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006958/ethernet-products/700-series-network-adapters-up-to-40gbe.html

Thanks and regards,

Yue

Hello yue3zhang,

Thank you for the update. The reason why I am asking for the markings is for me to check and validate the card first if it is an Intel retail card or an OEM which they may have a different validation. However, for intel retail cards, kindly check the validated OS below, FReeBSD 11.x/12.x is on the list.

Hello yue3zhang,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

For us to further check the issue, please provide the following details.

  1. What is the complete model of your E810?
  2. Are you using an onboard E810 or a PCIe card?
  3. What is the specific Opensource OS that you are going to use with E810?

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Hello yue3zhang,

Thank you for the quick response. Since you are using a PCIe card, can you send photos of the card on both sides focusing on the markings for us to validate the card and check the supported OS.

Hi Michael,

I don't have this card in hand right now. This is one question that my customer asked me. They are doing SDN software validation with E810 on VMware but not sure if we support FreeBSD as GuestOS.

Thanks,

Yue
