Intel Ethernet Controller I226V

Hallo,

Ich möchte gerne Wake on Lan einrichten für meinen PC. Leider funktioniert dies nicht. BIOS wurde PCIE Wake on Lan eingestellt.

Greetings!

Thank you for the posting in Intel Ethernet Community.

Based on the information, could you please check the following if its has been enabled.

Configure the network card

The computer’s network card must be configured in such a way that it is supplied with power at all times. It may be necessary to adjust the properties of the network card for this purpose.

Note: Administrative rights are required for this process.

Note: Configuration of the network card can vary depending on the type of network card and operating system version.

To activate Wake-on-LAN for the network card under Windows, follow these steps:

  1.  Start the computer.
  2. Open the Settings.
  3. Click Devices.
  4. Under Related settings, click the Device Manager link.
  5. > The Device Manager window will open.
  6. Under Network adapters, choose the Properties option in the context menu (right click) of the network card.
  7. > The Properties of dialog will open.
  8. Open the Power Management tab.
  9. Activate the Allow this device to wake the computer option.
  10. The network card now supports Wake-on-LAN.

Note: If the option described in Step 7 is not activated, you must first activate the Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power option.

Unfortunately, none of such instructions has ever worked for me on my PCIe adapter card with the I226-V chip. Tried both with the 1.x and 2.x driver branches. Toggled all possible setting combinations with "wake" in their name as well as the settings under "power management" tab of your screenshot (which by the way, are greyed-out and not modifiable with the 2.1.3.15 driver). And of course, in BIOS the setting to allow PCIE devices to wake up the computer is already enabled. So, for now, I still have to plug an extra cable to the port of the on-board Realtek LAN adapter of my motherboard, just for Wake-on-LAN.

Hello CGGX,

Could you please provide some details of the systems

System Model:

Operating System:

BIOS version:

As this might be an onboard NIC, have you reach out to OEM manufacturer as the vendor might have made customized changes on the NIC to adapt their system. You may double check the setting with them.

Thank you. My system is a 3-year-old custom build with AMD CPU (Ryzen 3700x) and AMD chipset (X570), with the mainboard from Asus (TUF GAMING X570-PLUS) and the onboard LAN controller is from Realtek, so it's probably not relevant to the current WoL-problem. BIOS is version 4802 from this July. OS is Windows 11 Enterprise build 22635.2552.

For the past 3 years, I've never had any Wake-on-LAN problem with the onboard Realtek Ethernet controller. Only recently did I purchase this PCI-e adapter with the I226V controller because the Realtek controller is only GbE, and I've upgraded my network to 2.5GbE. The card is from some no-name Chinese manufacturer, with only the Intel controller and one additional IC on it, and no additional branding. So probably I can expect no supports from the vendor. I don't really know if this WoL issue is caused by the board or the controller. But for now, I can use the workaround of waking up the computer with the Realtek controller from the motherboard.

Apart from that and the VLAN issue with the 2.x driver (mentioned in another thread), the adapter is working fine, with no disconnection or performance issues at all.

Greetings!

Can we verify if you have Fast Startup disabled? If Fast Startup is enabled, Wake on Lan from S4 or S5 is not supported by Windows.

Sorry for the delay, I was travelling for the past weeks. The computer never had Fast Startup enabled, because Hibernate was turned off since the beginning (with powercfg.exe /h off, resulting in no hiberfil.sys) and with that feature turned off, Fast Startup is no longer available.

As I wrote before, with the Realtek NIC on the same computer, WoL works from both S3 and S5 power states.

Hello, you can go ahead and close this issue, because it was opened by @Rayfger anyway and I only wanted to add my experience with the settings from the device properties dialog. I already have a working workaround (plugging a cable to the Realtek NIC).
