Intel(R) Ethernet Controller I225-V capped at 100Mbps

Good day,

I'm having an issue which appears to be quite common, but none of the workarounds I could find in this forum or elsewhere seem to work.

My intel(R) Ethernet Controller I225-V is unable to work at 1GB or 2.5GB, which is what's advertised on the motherboard ROG-STRIX-Z490-E-GAMING, bought very recently with Asus as vendor.

I tried updating everything, even setting the negotiation manually to 1GB and 2.5GB with full duplex, still nothing, won't go up faster than 100mb/s, I'm using a cat6e cable so that's not the issue, my other computers on the same LAN are at 600mb/s and even with the wi-fi on any phone I can get up to 250mb/s so it's clearly an issue with the Ethernet controller/HW.

With the Intel PROSet Adapter Configuration Utility I don't get any errors on the "Hardware Tests", but I do get an error on the "Connection Tests" at the second Test:

"Estado del enlace del cable : Fallida
Velocidad del enlace: 100 Mbps. El interlocutor no tiene capacidad para velocidades altas."

"State of the cable link: Failed
Speed of the link: 100Mbps, the interlocutor does not have high speed capability"

I've already updated all my drivers and firmware with the software from Intel and Asus official repositories

https://www.asus.com/es/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z490-E-GAMING/HelpDesk_Download/

I'm attaching the logs from SSU, since I assume you will ask for those.

Could you please provide me any solution to this issue?
I would hate to have to dissasemble my build and have to send back the motherboard just for the Ethernet card, as I do not plan to buy an extra PCIe Ethernet card just because I got some faulty Hardware...

Best regards,

Hello,

I am having the same issue as described above (internet speed capped at 100Mbps) and no solution yet. Is there work still being done to fix this issue?

Microsoft Windows 11 Pro (64-bit) - 23H2

Intel® Ethernet Controller (3) I225-V

I had to physically unplug the ethernet cable from my computer, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in, after changing the Speed & Duplex settings. Only then did I get the new speeds. I think it forces a new speed handshake with the switch/router.

Hi Tacoman,

Thanks for the reply and info. However, I have already tried this step as well as many others. I'm hoping @AlfredoS_Intel @Ronny_G_Intel or someone can comment on this issue. This is a freshly built PC, with my motherboard manufacture date of 05/23. I find it astounding that this issue has been going on for 3 years with still no clear path of resolution. A simple google search reveals many others having this problem, with varying levels of success in terms of fixing this.

These are the steps I've attempted:

  • Network Connections > Clicked on Ethernet > Properties > Configure ... > Advanced
    • Speed and Duplex > Tried 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex AND 2.5 Full Duplex
    • Disabled IPv4 Checksum Offload
    • Disabled Large Send Offload V2 (IPv4)
    • Disabled Large Send Offload V2 (IPv6)
    • Disabled TCP Checksum Offload (IPv4)
    • Disabled TCP Checksum Offload (IPv6)
    • Disabled UDP Checksum Offload (IPv4)
    • Disabled UDP Checksum Offload (IPv6)
  • Network Connections > Clicked on Ethernet > Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties > Advanced... > WINS > Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP
  • Confirmed using Cat5e cables. Switched them out and no difference
  • Confirmed WiFi devices are getting higher than 100Mbps speeds
  • Motherboard BIOS is up to date: Version 1807
  • Metered Connections are turned off
  • Limit Reservable Bandwidth Setting is unconfigured

I would be willing to try any other troubleshooting steps if provided.

Best,

Drew

Just got a ASUS X670E-A Wifi Gaming and I was having the exactly same issue with 100Mbps cap.

Tried everyting... three drivers version, disable functions and changed energy savings schemes.

But what really worked was change the router port. In fact I put a simple TP LINK Switch (5 port) between my PC and the ISP Wifi Router (Huawei AX2 + fiber).

The NIC recognized the connection as a 1000Mbps connection.

Im very happy.

Download newest intel driver from:Microsoft Update Catalog; Be sure to do this before following next step!

Go to device manager.

Remove affected adapter.

Check the box: Attempt to remove the driver for this device.

Unzip the CAB file with desired tool (7-zip, WinZip).

Right click on the setup information file (.inf) and select install.

Go back to device manager and select your computer, go to "Action" menu and select "Scan for Hardware Changes".

This should fix your speed issue.

If it doesn't use method of selecting "Speed and Duplex" in adapter "Advanced" menu add choose appropriate speed for your rigs capabilities.
