Intel X710-AT2 10G LAN problem

It is an on board Intel X710-AT2 10G LAN on the Asus PRO WS W790E-SAGE SE motherboard.
This problem has cost me a lot, really a lot in my financial situation. I already bought the same motherboard about 7 months ago and when the weather got cold this problem started. Not wanting to bother with an RMA, which would hardly be effective when there is a problem like this, and because of the rush, I buy a new same motherboard, almost a year younger and imagine -exactly the same behavior, same problem. Unbelievable for such a stable and well-made motherboard, but it's a little easier for me when I found that other manufacturers who use this LAN have the same problem. Both the previous motherboard and this one have the same problem with on board Intel X710-AT2 10G LAN: Under 20°C ambient when they are turned on, they boot fine as always, only the on-board Intel X710 Ethernet won't connect and the LAN LEDs are off already in standby on BIOS level -green LED doesn't show established LAN connection. If I let motherboard heat up, then turn off the device and then turn it on again, not restart but power cycle, LAN connection establishes in standby already. And it works so precisely the same on these two same motherboards produced one year apart, that it occurs to me if it was designed on purpose, because the prescribed operating temperature for DATA centers or Server rooms is 20-24°C as far as I know. This is supported by the fact that AsRock and Gigabyte motherboards with this Ethernet controller have the same problem. Can this be fixed?

Hello Ml12,

Greetings!!

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you have faced, and I completely understand your frustration. Unfortunately, after reviewing the situation, there is limited action we can take from our side. The Intel® Ethernet Controller X710-AT2 is integrated into the Asus PRO WS W790E-SAGESE motherboard, and while Intel provides the chipset, Asus customizes the settings for optimal functionality on their boards. Therefore, Asus support is the best point of contact to help resolve any issues related to this integration. We highly recommend reaching out to them for further assistance, as their expertise with the motherboard will be essential.

Additionally, we will pass the information regarding the Intel X710-AT2 10G LAN to our internal team for further review and tracking.

We truly regret that we cannot provide more direct assistance, but please feel free to reach out if you need further clarification. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Hello Ml12,

Warm greetings and good day to you.

First and foremost, we understand your concern, and we acknowledge how frustrating this issue can be, especially during the cold season. The problem you’re experiencing is related to the LAN on Motherboard (LOM), meaning the Ethernet controller is integrated into the motherboard. In the case of onboard adapters, motherboard manufacturers integrate the Ethernet controller into their designs and then modify their firmware and drivers based on their specific needs and design requirements.

Given this, we advise you to contact the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) directly. The issue might be caused by customizations that the OEM has made to their hardware and/or drivers, which we cannot account for. From our end, we can confirm that the operating temperature range for the adapter is from 0 °C to 55 °C (32 °F to 131 °F).

For your specific case, we recommend reaching out to ASUS. They may have a workaround for this issue or a firmware/BIOS update that could resolve it. We understand how inconvenient this situation is, and we apologize for any trouble it has caused. Unfortunately, there is not much we can do from our end beyond this recommendation.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Hello Regulan_Intel,
Thanks for your answer which is quite logical. However, what is very strange is that other manufacturers besides Asus, AsRock and Gigabyte have the same problem with this same Intel X710 controller. Here are some links:

Any new suggestions, ideas?

Okay, close if you have nothing more to say. Asus support persistently suggests RMA even though I tell them that I have already bought another board and that the same problem exists with a new board of a year younger production and so I would change the board on the basis of RMA and torture my €3500 CPU for this board and torture 7 pieces of NVMe M.2 SSDs and torture 8 pieces of ECC RAM and torture myself and the problem would still exist again and again because it exists on Asus and AsRock and Gigabyte boards with the same LAN controller. I paid €16,000 for the system for this board, then another €2,000 for another same motherboard, that's a total of €18,000, and you can see how this Intel X710 AT2 works and causes problems with several manufacturers. Close if you think it should, thanks.

We are working with Asus support to solve this problem. This motherboard has an ARS RMA (advanced), but I don't know why the RMA when I already did the "RMA" at my own expense by buying a new board a year younger and it has the same problem with the Intel X710 AT2 Ethernet. They say they cross and match my and the replacement board if I understand correctly but ... Can you give me a suggestion if I end up having to install a PCIe card and buy the same with an Intel X710 chip should I disable the integrated on board or just install the drivers for the added PCIe LAN card? If so, will there be any interference with the on-board Intel X710?
