I recently bought a X710-T4L and noticed 2 pins near the heatsink and was wondering what the purpose of those were.  They are labeled J2.  Are they there for diagnostic purposes or for an optional fan?

Hi @bnc,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

You may refer to the X710 Datasheet, page 44 and the link as below:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/content-details/332464/intel-ethernet-controller-x710-xxv710-xl710-datasheet.html?wapkw=Intel%20X710%20series%20datasheet&DocID=332464

Keyword:

Signal: TXA_L0_n

Ball# J2

Type: A-out

Description:

Serial Data Output for Ethernet Interface Group A. A serial differential output

pair running at up to 10.3125 GBaud. This output carries both data and an

embedded clock that is recovered along with data at the receiving end.

This lane is used as a transmit pair for one of the Ethernet ports in KX, KR,

and SFI modes for 4-port 10 Gb/s serial configuration.

This lane is also used as one of the transmit pairs in XAUI, KX4, KR4, XLAUI

or XLPPI modes for 4-lane 10 Gb/s or 40 Gb/s configurations.

I hope this clarifies your concern.
