driver of e1000e

Hello, I want to use the I219-LM on ubuntu16.04 OS. So I downloaded 'e1000e-3.8.4.tar.gz' and compile it on my PC. after modprobe e1000e, dmesg shows:

module verfication failed: signature and/or required key missing

Inter(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver

Copy right 1999-2020 Inter Cop

and after insmod, I use 'lsmod | grep e1000e", it shows:

e1000e 249856 0

ptp    20480  1  e1000e

So I think the module is loaded successfully. But I use lspci, or ifconfig, I couldn't find the ethernet device, do you know what's wrong, could you help me?

Hello zhanghong16,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

For us to further check the issue, please provide the following details.

  1. Are you using an onboard i219-LM or a PCIe card?
  2. What is the brand and model of your board or system?
  3. Can you share the link of the e1000e driver that you installed?
  4. Can you share a screenshot of the issue where the i219-LM is missing?

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Best regards,

Michael L.

Hello, thank you very much for your response, Michael L.

Now I have found the problem.  The BIOS turn off the NIC by default. So I can't find the net dev. After I turn on, that e1000e driver works fine.

Thanks for your support.

Hello zhanghong16,

Thank you so much for the update and we are happy that it is working fine. And also, since the issue is related to the BIOS of the board, if you will have issues again, kindly coordinate the issue with the board manufacturer.

Since there is no more issue, I need to close this thread now and if you need assistance again in the future. Please post a new question.

Thank you and stay safe.

Best regards,

Michael L.
