i210 Ethernet Adapter PROM Programming

I have an Intel i210 designed into an embedded application and have prototypes in hand. The design is based on the reference design for the i210. I can see it on the PCIe bus using lspci and I can check it with the nvmcheck utility (MAC address is all 0's). The problem is that I cannot find the necessary software app to program the device and its PROM to set up the MAC address. Is there something in the preboot or proadmin packages that allow me to do this? Is there another hidden app somewhere?

Thanks!

Hi, Chris! I passed your information over to Gregg as he covers your geographical territory and I believe that the two of you have been in contact. I was glad to make that connection for you. Also, there is another document, 513655 that will be added to the EDC by early next week, In the meantime I am going to send you an email with a temporary link to the document so that you do not have to wait for it to be published on the EDC. Check your email in the next few minutes. Have a wonderful day!! LynnZ.

Hi Chris,

Welcome to Intel Embedded Community!

Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter I210 stores product configuration information in an Internal Non-Volatile Memory (iNVM) and in Flash memory. The I210 does not support an external EEPROM. The I210 supports a Flash-less mode where all the setup found normally in Flash memory are either set to their default, configured by software, or stored into memory. For more information please seehttps://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ethernet-controllers/i210-ethernet-controller-datasheet.html Intel® Ethernet Controller I210 Datasheet

In Intel download center, we only provide:

1. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=11848&lang=eng&OSVersion=OS%20Independent&DownloadType=Documentation User Guides for Intel® Ethernet Adapters

2. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22283&lang=eng Intel® Ethernet Connections CD

And I'll try to find the app which program the device and set up the MAC address for you later.

Hope helps

William

Hi Chris,

I have found this tools for you, if you could access to IBL.

William,

Thanks for the link. I am able to download the software and run eeupdate. We're almost there. The i210 FAQ lists a document on IBL - 513655 which has pre-built images. Unfortunately I cannot locate said document as the only search result with that document # references back to the i210 FAQ.

Thanks

Chris

Hi, Chris! You can download document 348742 on the Embedded Design Center - http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/secure/intelligent-systems/privileged/quartzville-tools-284632.html Intel® Network Connections Tools. Click on the link that I provided. You may get a message that you need to login if you haven't already. To do this, go to http://edc.intel.com/ http://edc.intel.com and sign in (located at upper right of the page). Then you should be able to access the download. If you have any issues, go to the SEARCH bar at the top of the page and type in '348742', that should work for you, too.

Also, document 513655 is not currently on the EDC so I contacted Gregg Z, and Intel agent who covers your territory. He will help you get access to this document if you need it. Gregg will be in contact with you shortly.

Have a great day! LynnZ.

LynnZ,

Using both 513655 and 348742 documents I was able to successfully program the devices and my OS recognizes them as Ethernet devices. Thanks for your help!

Hello, Embedded Community. Chris needed document 513655, https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/secure/intelligent-systems/privileged/gbe-i210-i211-nvm-images.html?wapkw=513655 Intel® Ethernet Controller I210/I211-AT Production NVM Images, which we were able to deliver to him. To make it easier for all of you, this document has been added to the Embedded Design Center (http://edc.intel.com/ EDC). This https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/secure/intelligent-systems/privileged/gbe-i210-i211-nvm-images.html zip file is categorized as Intel Confidential, so a CNDA needs to exist between your company and Intel. These links will help you http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/intelligent-systems/embedded-design-center-contact-us.html apply for a Privileged account or contact mailto:edc.support@intel.com EDC Support.

Hello,

I received an upgrade to privileged, finally. When I view my profile, I see:

Resource and Design Center

Business ID

Level Privileged

Status Approved

But when I went to https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/networking/ethernet-controller-i210-i211-family.html Intel® Ethernet Controller I210/I211-AT for GbE Excellence

And tried to click on Intel Network Connections Tools

I get Access Denied: Privileged Access Required

Tags Membership Hardware Developers Etc.

Yes, I am logged in an my profile still shows privileged at this point. Very Frustrating.
