The loaner I/O ports, available in the Cyclone V and Arria V SoC devices, allow you to reutilize ports previously dedicated to hardened peripherals within the ARM Hard Processor Subsystem block. Although these interfaces are designed for slower-speed signals, they are useful, especially if you are I/O constrained and need to free up some ports for additional connections.
