Gaming performance dropping on Intel laptop GPU

Hi everyone,

I have a laptop with Intel graphics (Iris Xe) that used to run light games like Roblox and Minecraft quite well. At first, FPS was stable and the gameplay was smooth. But recently I noticed a big drop in performance FPS goes down randomly, and sometimes the game stutters even on low settings.

I updated drivers using Intel Arc Control, checked background apps, and even reinstalled the game, but nothing really solved the issue.

Has anyone else faced sudden performance drops with Intel GPUs? Could this be a driver problem, or maybe some hidden settings I should tweak? Any advice would help a lot.

To better assist you, could you help clarify a few points?

  • Have you noticed if the laptop gets unusually warm when the FPS drops? Sometimes thermal throttling can reduce performance.
  • Are you playing while plugged in, and is your Windows power plan set to “Best performance” or “Balanced”?
  • Does the stuttering happen only in Roblox and Minecraft, or do you see it in other applications/games as well?
  • Do you see any warnings or errors in Windows Event Viewer when the FPS drops occur?
  • Which graphics driver version are you currently running (from Intel Arc Control or Device Manager)?

I'd like to delve deeper and verify specifics like the graphics models, precise driver versions, and any system errors. Utilizing the Intel SSU tool will enable me to collect detailed information about your system setup, which could aid in identifying the underlying cause of this issue. Have you had a chance to review my earlier response? The details I requested (SSU report, CapFrameX data, driver version, and notes on thermals/power settings) will be very helpful in pinpointing the cause of the FPS drops. I’d also like to add a few more checks:

  • Have you recently installed any new software or updates around the time the issue began?

  • Do you notice any changes in network performance or connectivity during gameplay?

  • Have you tried running the games in compatibility mode or further adjusting the in-game settings?
