Most if not all games crash due to d3d device being lost

This drives me insane, whatever i do, theres chance of crash, for example today, i was helping 3 players, around middle end, it crashed, i dont know what happened to them. and this is not new issue, it went around from late 2023, where it happened almost once a month, but today, for one day, theres around 5 crashes,

i have already tried reinstalling drivers, i did it a couple of times, all the time it was temporary fix (not even for 2 days)

i know this device is not meant for heavier gaming, but to be honest, 15-20 fps is fine trade for working game.

im trying to recall what i have also tried, i tried changing time after system marks gpu drivers as dead to be higher, not worked. rest i dont really remember, if they get listed, i will know if i tested them.

Hello Uranium-235,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

It would be a great help if we could get more information about your system to properly analyze the root cause. Please download and run our Intel® System Support Utility and share the SSU log file (.txt). Please also mention some of the games (if not all) that crash due to the D3D device being lost. This will allow us to be more familiar with your system configuration and be able to provide an appropriate fix.

I will wait for your reply.

Best regards,

Hello Jeanette
sorry for not replying but at the moment of reply, it was 1 am now it tells me 10 am, but still was not able to respond. but now i can.

i compleated ssu, and output got uploaded. now hear me out. even tho gpu may be weak, with right setting, and low enought sanity to play at 20-30 fps on avarage on low setting, it works great, woudl reccommend.

about wich games, i noted: Deep rock galactic, hydroneer, if i remember corectlly also payday 2 but i might be wrong about it, Team Fortess 2. and other

i have also noticed, when i change something, like changing resolution, disconnecting/reconnecting second screen, changing max fps, it stopped crashing for some time (around 1 day,) but then came back.

im also somewhat sure that overheating doest cause it, as thermal paste is still good, and even if i crank up fan speed with special software, it still happends.

im trying to think of anything what can be usefull.

also question, how can i change resolution to lower than 800x600? so that it will work on any game, even ones what doesnt have resolution selection (this is for the sake of performance (as meaby better performance, and capping max fps at 30 might fix it))

Hello Uranium-235,

Thank you for sharing the requested details. We'll take note of the games where you're experiencing the issue. To proceed further, we'd like to ask a couple of follow up questions just to ensure that we fully understand the cause.

  1. Is the system crashing or just the applications?
  2. Can we get a copy of the event viewer logs or can you check them if the OS was able to log the source of the crash?
  3. Have you tested using Intel Generic Drivers?
  4. You may check using 3rd party hardware monitoring apps like HWinfo if the system is overheating before the crashes.

We may not be able to provide specific steps on setting custom resolutions or something that's lower than what Windows is able to provide as these settings are dependent on the system design. Computer manufacturers design and create their systems with their specifications meaning that they can also set limitations such as the supported resolutions. You may try to use Intel Graphics Command Center. However, this application requires at least 6th generation processor.

Please note that this is an OEM device, our assistance is greatly limited and you may need assistance directly with the manufacturer in case our assistance falls short due to the said limitations. Kindly let us know once you have done the steps above and we'll see what we can do for our next course of action.

Best regards,

hello FrancisP

as soon as i got home, i started game what crashes, and as luck got it, it refuzed to crash. propably something changed, and crash need 1 day to come back. i will give stuff from event viewer when it happends. but for now, gotta wait.

but i can answer some questions:

  • only the application is crashing
  • i might have tested with intel generic drivers, because i did 3 tests, and all failed (all drivers were uninstalled using DDU)
  • im using CoreTemp what starts with system and highest it registered is 80°C (176F)

i dont think lenovo will care about this device anymore, i dont know, i can try if we fail

Hello Uranium-235,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.

  • Since only this application crashes, you may have to reach out to the game developer support for possible software updates.
  • You may try to do a clean installation of the latest generic driver version 15.40.48.5171 or OEM driver version 20.19.15.5126 (highly recommended).
  • 80°C (176F) is quite high, but if the temperature is only while in the game, then this is still decent as this processor can handle up to 100°C. For any overheating issue, you will still need to reach out to your system manufacturer support team for further diagnosis.

Should the recommendations above still not fix the issue, the best support team to reach is your system manufacturer so they can help diagnose your system fully.
