10th generation and earlier processors still do not support adjusting color depth

10th generation and earlier processors still do not support adjusting color depth in the Intel graphics control panel for external monitors using DisplayPort protocol in  USB type-c port.

Hi guys.

This issue has also been discussed several times in this community before. In other forums, I heard that after July this year, external monitors with DisplayPort protocol for 11th generation and later processors can already adjust the color depth in the control panel. It was solved by the update of the “Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics” driver in June or July this year.

I have seen you guys just updated the latest version (2130) for “7th-10th Gen Processor Graphics” in September. I was expecting that the problem of adjusting the color depth would be solved. But the reality is no, the default value is still 8bit. The release note says that it solves a problem related to the Panel Self Refresh option. I'd like to ask if this issue can be fixed by the next update of the driver. My OLED monitor would love to bring out its true performance.

Thanks.

Graphics Driver Support Update for 10th Generation and Older Intel Processor Graphics

In 2022, Intel has moved 6th - 10th Gen Intel Processor Graphics to legacy software support model. Intel provides software support for affected products on critical fixes and security vulnerabilities only.

The ability to output 10-bit via the DisplayPort protocol would, as far as I understand, be a feature update but not a bug fix. I'm afraid you'll have to update your PC to 11th Gen or higher in hardware.

Thanks for your reply.

Compared to a basic discrete graphics card, I thought that adjusting the color depth options for each interface should be a feature that comes from the factory. Especially in the case of insufficient speed of the HDMI interface, there is no other option. I wish that the improvements in the color depth adjustment option for 11th Gen and later processors would make it a little easier to port programs, and more likely for 10th Gen and earlier processors to have this option in the near future.

Best regards.
