3rd monitor not being detected by Intel HD graphics on a Haswell G3420

I built a PC using the G3420 processor and its integrated graphics. The specifications show that it can run 3 monitors which is critical to my work. The Intel graphics driver is unable to detect the 3rd monitor. All monitors are different models. Is that the cause? If so, if I were to get a HDMI or other active adapter/cable would that make it work? The graphic inputs on my board include HDMI, DVI and VGA. Thank you!

What is your operating system?

Are you using any kind of adapter or converter?
