Advanced users - we need your feedback: Control Panel color configuration options

Hello Everyone,

We need to hear directly from you, our valued customers, which color-related options (e.g. Hue, Wide Gamut) from the Intel® HD Graphics Control Panel you use the most. In an effort to better optimize our driver, some of these Control Panel features are targeted for removal for future platforms, and thus we need to know what are the different real-world use cases in which these features prove useful to you.

Your feedback can help us build a better product! Feel free to add your comments in this post.

Having the ability to control color depth and subsampling is actually what I look for the most in future Intel Graphics Command Center updates. I continue to advocate for its prompt inclusion, however I cannot promise or provide an ETA for it.

@stna1981@Ronald_Intel  If you read any Intel NUC documentation about Intel Integrated Graphics it says The maximum supported resolution is 4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz, 24bpp i.e. 4k x 2k@60hz, 8 bit.

@Ronald_Intel Can you confirm that Intel Integrated Graphics does not support 4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz, 30 bpp that is 4k x 2k@60hz, 10 bit? Is 4k x 2k@60hz, 10 bit not mandatory to show HDR?

Max video resolution and color depth

– 4Kp60Hz, RGB/YCbCr444, 8bpc

– 4Kp60Hz, YCbCr422 up to 12bpc

– 4Kp60Hz, YCbCr420, up to 16bpc

– 4Kp30Hz, RGB/YCbCr444, up to 16bpc

HDMI is supported through a MegaChips MCDP2800-BCT DisplayPort 1.2a to HDMI 2.0b Level Shifter/Protocol Converter (LSPCON). The HDMI port supports standard, enhanced, or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. The port is compatible with all ATSC and DVB HDTV standards and supports eight full range channels at 24-bit/192kHz audio of lossless audio formats. The maximum supported resolution is 4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz, 24bpp. The HDMI portis compliant with the HDMI2.0b specification.

DisplayPort is a digital communication interface that utilizes differential signaling to achieve a high bandwidth bus interface designed to support connections between PCs and monitors, projectors, and TV displays. DisplayPort is suitable for display connections between consumer electronics devices such as high definition optical disc players, set top boxes, and TV displays. The maximum supported resolution is 4096x 2304@ 60 Hz, 24bpp. DisplayPortviaUSBTypeC connectoris compliant withtheDisplayPort 1.2specification.

@Ronald_Intel  Intel uses MegaChips MCDP2800-BCT that does support 4Kp60Hz, YCbCr420, up to 16bpc needed to decode 4Kp60Hz, YCbCr420, 10bpc UHD Bluray. Do you think the driver needs to be fixed to support full LSPCON functionality? Clearly if you advertise HDR you should support UHD Bluray HDR?

@stna1981  You could try Linux (a brand new release distro will do) with kernel version above 5.0. YCBCR 4:2:0/4:4:4 support for LSPCON is added by Intel engineer shashank.sharma@intel.com

https://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_5.0

Add YCBCR 4:2:0/4:4:4 support for LSPCON

@Ronald_Intel So whats the status regarding the manual control of color depth (bpc) for the Windows driver, Linux seems to be supporting the needed 4:2:0 setting already?

Hi @stna1981 ,

We wanted to include the option to manually select Color Depth and Subsampling by end of Q4'19 or earlier Q1'20, but it was necessary to push it back (that is why I usually don't like providing ETAs as dates can shift).

Rest assured that the feature is still on track for implementation in a next Intel Graphics Command Center release (updated target is Q2'20).

Thank you for your patience.

Best Regards,

Ronald M.

So, any update on that?

Monitors are getting bigger and complaints are starting to pile up.

Please ask the driver team to include dithering controls such as disabled/spatial/temporal etc. Selecting the correct Color Depth negates the need to use temporal dithering and can cause headaches/dizziness for a minority of users.

Please can we have the option to select color depth, but more importantly we need an option added to enable/disable temporal dithering. The effect of dithering causes severe discomfort to a proportion of users and needs to be switched off. A community of users affected are on LED Strain (https://ledstrain.org).

Is this thread still active?

As I mentioned in my last post, color depth/dithering controls should be made available for advanced users. Please add manual controls to select dither method (temporal/spatial/disabled) and color depth (6/8/10bpc).

Ladies and gents, I'm glad to announce this should have dropped earlier this year
