I am using an HP laptop with Intel UHD Graphics (12th Gen).
I am facing an issue where the screen brightness automatically changes based on screen content:
- Dark screen → brightness decreases
- White screen → brightness increases
This happens even after:
- Adaptive brightness is OFF in Windows
- Power settings are normal
- Latest Intel graphics driver installed
- Intel Graphics Command Center does not show any power-saving or DPST option
Temporary fixes like reinstalling the driver work only briefly, but the issue returns after restart or Windows update.
This behavior is very distracting and affects usability.
Please help with a permanent solution to disable Intel DPST (Display Power Saving Technology) or content adaptive brightness.
System details:
- Laptop: HP 15s-fq5xxx
- Processor: Intel i3 12th Gen
- Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics
- OS: Windows 11

Hello hareshthakur,
Thank you for reaching out to Intel support regarding the auto brightness issue you're experiencing with your HP laptop's Intel UHD Graphics.
I appreciate you providing detailed information about your system and the troubleshooting steps you've already attempted. Your concern relates to Intel Graphics display technology and driver settings, which requires specialized graphics support.
Before we proceed, please note that this is an OEM device, we will try to assist you with general troubleshooting steps even if it’s something not traditionally covered in our support. However, if the issue still persists, you will have to contact the Original Equipment Manufacturer of your device. Your device manufacturer may have altered features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to some components for better compatibility with your system.
For 11th Generation through 14th Generation Intel® Processor Graphics, issue the following statements:
- As of September 19, 2025, Intel has moved 11th - 14th Gen Intel Processor Graphics and related Intel Atom®, Pentium®, and Celeron® processor graphics to a legacy software support model. Intel will provide software support for affected products on critical fixes and security vulnerabilities only. Software updates for these products will move to a quarterly release cadence with additional critical releases as needed.
- Only critical fixes and security vulnerabilities will be addressed in quarterly driver releases going forward.
Would like to continue with the support? Please note that even if the issue is fixed by our developers, the fix will only come to Intel Ultra Core Series 1 or newer drivers and will not be included on the driver of your graphics card.
Looking forward to your reply.
Best regards,
JeanetteC.
