Can the external display show DPST in Intel graphics software ?

Previously, IGCC did not differentiate between external and internal displays and could directly use DPST. Now, IGS distinguishes between them. When a built-in display is detected, DPST is supported, but for external displays, no indication is shown. Is this normal? Does DPST not support external displays?

Hi huxinmiao,

Thank you for contacting Intel Support regarding DPST (Display Power Saving Technology) functionality with external displays in Intel Graphics Software (IGS).

I understand your concern about the difference in DPST behavior between the previous Intel Graphics Control Center (IGCC) and the current Intel Graphics Software, particularly regarding external display support.

To better assist you with this inquiry, I need some additional information:

  • Was DPST working with your external display in the previous IGCC version? If so, which version of IGCC were you using when it worked?
  • When did you first notice this change in behavior after switching to IGS?

For accurate troubleshooting, please provide the following details:

If you're not comfortable using SSU, please provide:

  • CPU Model: (e.g., Intel Core i7-12700K)
  • GPU Model: (e.g., Intel Iris Xe Graphics)
  • System Model: (Manufacturer and model number)
  • Monitor Model: (Brand and model of external display)

Connection Details:

  • Cable type (HDMI/DisplayPort/USB-C)
  • Cable version (HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, etc.)
  • Any adapters used

Please also provide the EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) for both your internal and external displays. This will help us understand the display capabilities and determine DPST compatibility.

To extract EDID information from IGCC:

  1. Open Intel Graphics Control Center (if still available on your system)
  2. Navigate to Display settings
  3. Look for display information or advanced settings
  4. Export or screenshot the EDID data for both displays

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps so far, such as:

  1. Updating Intel Graphics Software to the latest version
  2. Updating graphics drivers
  3. Testing different connection methods

Given the technical nature of this inquiry and for more efficient troubleshooting, I'd be happy to schedule a phone call to discuss this DPST behavior in detail. Please let me know your preferred callback time (considering your +86 timezone) if you'd like to pursue this option.

Please provide the requested information including the EDID data from IGCC (if accessible), and I'll investigate whether this is expected behavior or if there are specific configurations needed for DPST support with external displays.

Best regards,

Thank you for your reply. I have checked and found that DSPT only supports built-in displays. This issue can be closed now.

Hi huxinmiao,

Thank you for your follow-up and for confirming that you have found the information regarding DPST (Display Power Saving Technology) support.

I'm pleased to hear that you were able to verify that DPST only supports built-in displays, which answers your original inquiry about the difference in behavior between Intel Graphics Control Center (IGCC) and Intel Graphics Software (IGS) regarding external display support.

As requested, I will be closing this support thread since you have confirmed that the issue has been resolved and you have the information you needed.

DPST functionality is designed to work with built-in displays only, which explains why IGS shows DPST options for internal displays but not for external displays. This is the expected behavior and not a limitation or bug in the software.

If you have any other questions about Intel Graphics Software or need assistance with other display-related features in the future, please don't hesitate to contact Intel Support again.

Best regards,
