Display Driver keeps crashing and then recovering. Help!!!!

When trying to play the Sims 3 on my windows 7 computer, after a few minutes (lately seconds, immediately after the game itself begins) of gameplay, my game freezes up and I receive a notification saying 'Display driver crashed and has successfully recovered." Once this happens, my computer either crashes entirely, or my game continues to flicker on and off all the while I repeatedly receive that same notification, thus making the game entirely unplayable.

I'm really at my wits end here. I know that this is the subject of many forums, but I have yet to have seen a solution that worked. I've combed the internet for days trying to find a solution. I've tried to update my drivers, certain that that was the issue, only to be told that my drivers were already as updated as they could be. I have Intel (R) HD Graphics version 8.15.10.2342). I haven't downloaded anything new before or after the issue started, nor have I recently changed anything in the game itself. My computer supposedly meets all of the minimum qualifications for the game as well, and it always worked perfectly fine until recently, and randomly.

Is there anything I can do to fix this, or at least attempt to fix this? I'd really appreciate A N Y advice, as my knowledge of computers is extremely limited. Thank you so, so, so, so much!!!!

Does the driver crash literally after the game starts??

Since you already tried driver updates the problem might be because its too new or maybe something else.

Try getting your game settings to a low quality setting in the ingame settings. Like for example change the shadowing option (if present) to off. Play with these options and check if it causes a difference?
