Hello,

I bought external 2K Monitor , and windows doesn't offer me the 2K resolution in settings, I have updated Intel UHD drivers, and checked bios, chipset, monitor update.

I have windows 11, only integrated video card: Intel UHD

Intel UHD driver version: 27.20.100.9664   ;  And for processor:  10.0.22621.1485

My windows version: 22H2 (windows 11 Home) (OS build: 22621.1992 )

Is it possible to somehow enable the 2K resoultion?

Laptop model: V14-IIL Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 82C4

Monitor model Philips 275S1AE

Lenovo Community did not get this resolved.

Hello Edvinc,

Thanks for posting in the Intel communities. I can imagine how frustrating this is for you, that is why I will help you to figure out what could be the problem with your computer.

1. Can you provide the exact model of your CPU? This will help to check for the proper drivers, this is because "Intel UHD" and "Intel® UHD Graphics for 10th Gen Intel® Processors" may have a different version (the last one based on the info from Lenovo).

2. Are you using the driver from Lenovo or Intel? This is because the Intel drivers are generic and the ones from Lenovo are customized to work perfectly with your laptop.

3. Did you test a different HDMI cable? A bad cable may cause the display not to use its maximum potential.

4. Did you test a different monitor? Sometimes a laptop is not compatible with some monitors and this caused unexpected issues.

5. Did you run all the optional Windows updates? These updates may include important fixes and improvements.

Hello Deivid,

1. Here is the exact model: Intel Core i5-1035G1 CPU @ 1.00GHz

2. Right now driver is from Intel from this site: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19387/intel-graphics-beta-windows-dch-drivers.html

I guess these are some beta drivers.

But I also have had original Lenovo drivers from their site, and they would not help resolve the problem.

3. I have tested 3 different cables, but i had new cable with my monitor, so mine should be ok I guess.

4. I Will test with different monitor today and post how it went this evening.

5. Yes, all possible updates have been done.

Regards, Edvins

Hello Edvinc,

Thanks for your response. I will be waiting for the results from your test with a different Monitor or TV. Also, you mentioned that you have a new cable, did you get the resolution desired with this new cable? Or, is the issue still present?

In addition, you can try the following:

1. Try the released drive version 31.0.101.2125. The BETA version is just for testing in case the released version does not work.

2. Try to update your BIOS version. You may need to check with Lenovo to confirm if you have the latest version installed and if not, consult if an update is needed.

Hello Deivid,

Tried different monitor, my computer did not recognize the correct maximum resolution (1440p ) of the monitor, in windows 1080p was the maximum available.

I am using the monitor with the cable that came in the box of monitor and issue is still present.

1. Just tried driver version 31.0.101.2125 , this also did not resolve anything.

2. Bios is updated, double checked this morning.

I also have tried Booting Linux on my computer and it did not give me desired resolution.

Regards, Edvins

Hello Edvinc,

Thanks for the confirmation and the information provided. Since you have updated the BIOS and operating system, tried with different operating systems, and updated the graphics diver, this might mean that this issue is related to the laptop.

The laptop manufacturer can limit or remove the feature of the components used (CPU, GPU, RAM, etc.) depending on their requirements. I recommend you check with Lenovo to confirm if there are any restrictions or if there is any issue with the hardware. If Lenovo, confirms that the issue is related to the hardware, they are the only ones that can provide you a replacement.

Please keep in mind that this thread will no longer be monitored by Intel.

Ok, before anything else, 1440p is *not* 2K. It is, in fact, 1.66 times the maximum pixel count of 2K. Call it 1440p, not 2K. Just saying.

But, all that said, 1440p@60Hz is still well within the capabilities of the HDMI 1.2 implementation of your G Series processor.

Now, there are three possibilities for what is wrong:

  1. Really crappy HDMI port implementation. Hhmmm, seen this in Lenovo laptops before.
  2. Really bad HDMI port support in the BIOS, limiting the resolution of the external monitor to that of the built-in monitor. Seen this before as well.
  3. Really crappy HDMI cables. Golden rule: You get what you pay for. You didn't pay for the cable that came with the monitor. It is thus crap, cannot be trusted and should be disposed of. TRo be sure, use HDMI 2.0 (or better) certified cables.

Hope this helps,

...S

Hello Scott,

1. I Just ordered new hdmi port for my computer, will keep updated if this fixes the problem.

2. If i try using only the second screen it does not give me higher resolution aswell.

3. This cable does the job on different PC, so cable is good.

My colleague has the same V14 iil laptop but with ryzen processor, tried his computer with the monitor and it immediately recognized the correct resolution.

Hello Scott,

I have soldered new port to the pc, it did not fix the problem.

I guess the pc is not capable of running more than 1080p, although spec sheet says something different...

So this is the solution.
