in the attatched pictures i show what i am running on.
i currently am using version 10.18.10.4276 for my intel(R) hd graphics 4000. and i am trying to update it to version 10.18.10.4338, A01.
ive tried using intel driver update utility and then i moved on to trying the dell support page to try and update it. and none have worked.
i keep getting the error message "program has failed to install one or more device drivers setup will exit" i also tried uninstilling my graphics driver and reinstalling the new version but it still will not work. i need help please and i am not very computer literate so please be kind.

how long does it usualy take to get an answer on these forums? im not complaining, im just curious so i dont have to be checking the post every 15 minutes.

can you explain to me how to do this proccess?
i went to " update device driver" and i right clicked the graphic driver and clicked uninstall.
and now i downloaded the link you sent me. how to i implement it?

in the "read me" text file of that download it says to update driver and browse for its file and then click on the "igdlh.INF" file but that file is nowhere to be found

and click on exe.

then unzip the archive.
After that go update device driver and browse where you unzipped that archive, in Graphics folder

Please check your windows partition on your hard drive or ssd. It seems that is full

When you go in file explorer, you will see some drives with letters (for example c: d: e:).
Right click on c: and select properties. It will tell you how much free space you have there.

The problem is that you have to little space on windows partition, or you downloaded so many files on that partition that now is full. You need to look in downloads or document folders and delete some files that you don't need from there. The driver doesn't have space where to install.

Yes I see. Thats strange.
Lets try this.
After you uninstall Intel Driver use this utility: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 15.7.5.5
Select Intel at Graphic Driver.
Then click on Clean and DO NOT Restart.
That will remove any leftovers from the old driver.
And then Set Automatic Installation Driver to default. And after that restart.
Then install the new driver .
If this doesn't work then try to do a windows update. Normally windows should update your video drivers also, but I don't know if they are latest for your system.
I guess you had windows 7 and took the free upgrade to 10 ?

that was it! thank you for your patience and time and yes i did take the free upgrade to windows 10. But one last question: would i of encountered this problem if i stayed on windows 7? and would my system be running better on windows 7?

NOTE to be checked there: "6 Windows 10 drivers for 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors with Intel® HD Graphics 4000 (your CPU) and 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors with Intel® HD Graphics 2500 (formerly codenamed Ivy Bridge) will include support for Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 1.3. For reference, WDDM 1.2 features are available on Microsoft's website. This Windows 10 driver will not be digitally signed, which means that it will not have been tested by Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). Note that Windows will alert you with a message if a driver is not digitally signed, but you can continue the installation."
What does that mean?
Intel provides with the general drivers for this platform, Microsoft implements that for general use with 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors and then it is added via Windows updates; However, please take into consideration it is not digitally signed, which means that it is not tested (performance/behavior wise) by Windows Hardware Quality Labs.
Support with Windows 7* is older or more drivers have been released, more issues have been noted and fixed, so chances are that driver wise, you will get better ones or more reliable with Windows 7* that with Windows 10*.
