Fix Display Power Saving Technology

Hi all:

I purchased my laptop two months ago and realized today that the battery was in the whole time, even though I used the laptop as a desktop replacement and had it plugged into AC. I shut down the laptop and took out the battery, then restarted the laptop. Then I noticed something I have never seen before: the display changes brightness in response to what content I am displaying. I found this very annoying since the response time is quite slow and the monitor would be extremely dim for a few seconds. I initially thought this was the "adaptive brightness" from windows. After playing with those setting and see no result, I did more research and found that it was Intel graphic's "Display Power Saving Technology". Following steps provided online to try to turn it off, I found that this setting can not be changed when using AC power. The option only appears under "on battery" and has no effect when I am using AC only. One interesting thing is that "Display Power Saving Technology" was enabled for "on battery" but had no effect when I used both battery and AC. I hope this will be fixed in the future so users can configure screen brightness correctly.

Sorry for any grammatical mistakes as I am not a native speaker.

Thanks for joining the Graphics community JB97.

I would need more information in regards to your system, so would you please reply back to me with this data:

o Click the Windows icon, and then right-click Computer.

o Select Properties.

o Find System Type on the Properties window, and then note the processor model.

Could you please attach the DX Diag report for your system?

(Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information).

I also recommend you to check if you are running the latest BIOS version available for your system.

Hi Sylvia,

I have the same issue as the original poster - in order to not wear down my battery, I usually take the battery out and use it on AC only. The brightness dims on certain dark-themed websites and apps such as Spotify, which is slightly annoying as I only would like the Intel Display Power Saving technology to be switched on when using the battery. Switching it off has no affect, as not only would I like to keep the option enabled on battery, but it doesn't change when on AC only.

I'm using an HP Envy 15-J105SA (Intel i7-4700MQ with HD Graphics 4600), with Windows 8.1 Core. The driver version for HD Graphics is at 10.18.10.3304 but I believe the issue also occurs on the latest drivers (which I was using until I reset my PC about a week ago). It seems like this is a bug with the HD Graphics drivers.

Thanks

Edit: I believe http://https//communities.intel.com/thread/57500 this thread also has a very similar issue.

Edit 2: Running the latest BIOS, and I've uploaded my DxDiag file https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6_9NbOPFeGOU2FCblpmQjNzQVk/view?usp=sharing here.

One month and still no replies? A bit poor. This is a bug and should be quickly forwarded to the development team.

I'm sorry for the delay InconspicuousDuck.

I would like to inform you that this behavior has been reported to corresponding team.

Regarding the DxDiag from your system, I was not able to open it. Would you please attach the file to your reply using the "advanced editor" feature?

Regards.
