GMA 3600 series 7x64 drivers....

Today I found out that I have a motherboard that is 64bit capable, but lacks 64bit GPU drivers.

The motherboard is a DN2800MT. After installing 7x64 I was surprised not seeing unidentified hardware (that's a first for me with Windows), however, I noticed straight away that Windows was using the build-in GPU drivers. Those are so basic that even Patience starts complaining about the lack of graphics performance.

Not long after that I found out that Intel refuses to make 64 bit GPU drivers for this motherboard, while there are 64bit chipset, LAN and sound-drivers available. So why make those and not GPU drivers?

Then I found someone on this forum who linked to a beta driver (GFX_Vista_Win7_64_8.15.8.1050_Beta5.exe) that supposedly supports this particular GPU. Well.... after running the driverinstaller and a reboot, I got a BSOD. Another reboot -> BSOD. Safe-mode -> delete GPU driver -> no more BSOD, but crappy graphics performance due to the standard Windows driver being used again.

After a second attempt, not using the driverinstaller but let the device manager install the driver, it seems to run without problems, didn't get BSOD's anymore. Now I haven't tested much, Windows starts, graphics performance increased and Patience is no longer nagging about crappy graphics, gonna try more tomorrow.

Why are you (Intel) still refusing to make a GPU driver for this motherboard for any OS besides 7x86? This motherboard can run 7x64 without problems. The only thing that's a problem is the lack of GPU drivers. And no, I am not gonna switch to 7x86 because the full amount of RAM is not usable in 32 bits OS's.

Realmente no comprendo por que no pueden generar un driver para 64 bits, si es un procesador para 64 bits deben de generar sus drivers por que así esta en sus especificaciones y eso que hacen es un engaño; DE NADA SIRVE TENER UN PROCESADOR 64 BITS SI NO PUEDO INSTALAR UN SISTEMA OPERATIVO A 64 BITS. La verdad leyendo en mucho foros, me encuentro que la gente esta molesta con la postura que esta tomando INTEL.

Well, I just found out that Intel made my account inaccessible (username not found), luckily registering again does not take too long.

Don't know what that beta driver I used did, but after a couple of BSOD's pointing to imgkmd64.sys, the motherboard no longer outputs a signal to the monitor, not even during the POST. However, it does seem to respond to the keyboard but no errors or anything.

edit: woops, loose cable. Anyway, picture is back and the BSOD's disappeared as soon as I removed the driver.

Right now I'm thinking about mutilating the motherboard with a dremel, to be a bit more specific: open up the back of the PCIe x1 slot and put in a PCIe graphics card I've got lying around.

Or I can wait and see if the real manufacturer of this GPU has drivers, I found out that Intel slapped an Intel label on a PowerVR sgx545.

Emailed the manufacturer about drivers.

I remember reading somewhere that the PCIe slot on these type of motherboards can only deliver 10 watts of power. I hope for your sake that I'm wrong.

Only 10 watts? Hmm, I don't know if such a low power graphics card exists...

Haven't put that to the test and so far it seems Windows 7's default driver doesn't have to much limitations that could be problematic.

Considering that the lowest TDP of a discrete card today (Radeon HD 7350/8350) is 19.1 watts, that's no bueno.

I am like you fed up with Intel's attitude to it's customer. But on the point of the RAM issue, there is a work around for that. This is only a software block on Windows 7, and there is a simple solution for this. I'd go and check google

Is that the artificial 2 GB limit Windows 7 Starter has that you're talking about? If so, that won't work. Win7 Starter only comes preloaded on netbooks and can't be purchased by itself, and since Bartgrefte's DN2800MT doesn't come with an OS (or a hard drive), it must be running at least Home Premium, which has a 16 GB memory limit.

Yes that's the problem with Starter, but even with other versions they for some reason disable some of your RAM depending on the total memory you have including on graphics card etc. I'm not sure you only get 4GB regardless of the greatness of your Windows in 32 bit versions, 64 bit yes, 32 bit no. In any case all can be fixed

i have the same Problem with this Mainboard. I downloaded also the Beta driver. Windows 7 works fine. But not the Multimedia Software XBMC. The menu is flickering all the time. I lost round about 3 hours to try solving this problem. Now i must do a downgrade to x86. Sadly!

Installing through the device manager is quite easy. Unpack the driverpackage, you can use WinRAR or 7zip for that. Then go to the device manager and right-click the GPU and click on update driver (or whatever looks like it, using Dutch Windows here, not 100% sure what it says in the English version). Then point it to the .inf-file and let it install it. If I remember correctly, the inf-file has this path in the folder where you extracted the driverpackage: \VGA\Graphics\igdlh64.inf

Then you might want to start praying it works, I gave up. Gonna keep that motherboard for testing purposes, but not gonna use it due to lack of (working) drivers and never buying Intel-stuff again.
