Graphical Glitches in Final Fantasy XIII

Hello,

There is a strange glitch in Final Fantasy XIII whenever the character Vanille attacks, where black lines appear from her weapon. This is also the case with some other characters in the game as well.

I was told this was a common issue amongst those who use intel GPU on steam, and was wondering if there was a fix to this.

My GPU is Iris Xe, although this was also an issue on HD Graphics 5500 as well.

Here's the link to a youtube video that shows this issue.
I also attached the SSU text log if you need it.

Thanks in advance!

Hello flamango04,

Thank you for posting in the community!

I've noticed the glitches you mentioned when playing with Vanille. I have a few follow-up questions to help us address the issue:

  1. What is the current graphics driver installed on your system?
  2. Could you share your in-game display and graphics settings?
  3. Does this issue occur only on specific maps, or is it consistent across all maps?
  4. Have you tried using different graphics drivers?
  5. Have you used Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to perform a clean installation? This can help determine if a clean installation resolves the issue.
  6. Have you attempted to revert to your Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) driver?

Best regards,

Hello,

1. The current graphics driver installed is Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics version 32.0.101.5768

2. I have tried almost every combination of graphic settings available, but here are the ones used in the video:
60fps, 1920x1080 resolution, full-screen display mode, 2048x2048 shadow resolution, x16 anti-aliasing (MSAA), Vsync on.

I tried different resolutions, turning Vsync off, changing the framerate, etc. but it did not seem to change anything.

3. This glitch is present across all maps.

4. As I stated above, this glitch was also present on another laptop using Intel HD Graphics 5500.

5/6. Neither seems to have fixed the problem.

Thank you.

Hello flamango04,

Thank you for answering my question. I recommend testing the latest graphics driver from Intel’s website to see if it improves performance. The latest driver version is 32.0.101.6795.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Download the driver from this link.
  2. Before restarting your system, disconnect your laptop from the internet. Ensure that Wi-Fi does not automatically reconnect.
  3. Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU)< software and extract the file.
  4. Open DDU ****.exe and run extract program.
  5. Reboot into Windows* safe mode. (Refer to Start your PC in safe mode in Windows.)
  6. Go to the DDU extract path and double-click the Display Driver Uninstaller.exe to open DDU.
  7. Click Close in the Options window.
  8. Select device type to GPU and select device to INTEL.
  9. Click Clean and restart or Clean and Shutdown depending on your needs
  10. Wait the software to finish the process and auto reboot Windows to the normal mode or shutdown.

Then let me know what will be the outcome of after using the latest graphics driver.

That didn't change anything. Not sure how it would have, as it was only a few versions apart anyway.

The glitch still remains.

Hello flamango04,

Thank you for trying the latest driver, as it is still the same issue. I would like to further investigate this issue. Before I investigate this could you share to Thank you for testing the latest driver. Since the issue persists, I would like to conduct a deeper investigation.

Before proceeding, could you share a screenshot of your in-game display and graphics settings? Additionally, could you confirm where you downloaded the game (e.g., Steam, Epic Games, Battle.net, etc.)?

Best regards,

The game is downloaded through steam. The steam folder is in the root folder (C:/)

Here are the pre-launch game graphics settings. There is not an option to view these in game.

Hi @flamango04

Thank you for your patience. After thoroughly testing various MSAA settings and conducting character-specific tests, I've determined that the issue is isolated to Vanille. Given this, it would be advisable to collaborate with the game developer to further investigate the cause of the lines appearing during Vanille's attack.

For further assistance, you can reach out to Square Enix support at: https://support.na.square-enix.com/

I'll be closing this case now and the thread will no longer be monitored. If the you have any questions, feel free to create a new thread or contact Intel Customer Support directly.
