HD Graphics 4600 - 21:9 aspect ratio not displaying in Windows 10

Hi all,

I have an older computer that I've been using as a media server for years:

MSI Z97 PC Mate mainboard (Intel HD Graphics 4600)

Intel Core i5-4460 CPU & 16GB Ram

Windows 10

Latest Intel Graphic Driver 20.19.15.5171

Connected via HDMI (or DVI)

Recently, I've purchased an MSI Optix MAG342CQR, 21:9 aspect ratio, 3440x1440p resolution display. I cannot get this computer to display to this monitor once it gets into Windows 10.

Symptom:

- Once Windows 10 gets to the logon screen, it causes the monitor to boot loop.

What does work:

- BIOS displays no problem

- post displays

- Windows booting logo displays

- Windows 10 Safe Mode display

- Ubuntu 20.04 displays (2460x1080 @ 60hz)

What does not

-Getting anything to display on the monito from the Windows 10 logon and beyond (on this monitor).

I've tried the following

- Using the Intel Command Center, I expected better control over resolutions and refresh rates but any configuration changes made in this tool don't seem to take affect.

- advice in here - https://dancharblog.wordpress.com/2020/08/18/5120x1440-49-ultrawide-on-intel-gpus/

I'm not an expert in this space by any stretch, I'm just a nerd that won't give up.

Potential solutions include:

- finding another version of Intel Command Center that works (There was a Dell version that clearly said it should work with my 4th gen version of Intel processor but I don't believe it made a difference)?

- modifying the latest Intel graphics drivers to force support for this resolution?

I've spent a lot of time looking for any way I can get this old integrated graphics card to display Windows 10. Had I applied myself this to other paths that result in me making money, I surely could have made enough extra cash to buy a new $800 graphics card ... but I'm not smart enough to give up.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!
