HDMI - VGA Adapter not working on Intel HD 4000

Hello,

I have a Samsung Serie Ultra 5 530U3C Notebook with Intel HD 4000 Graphics. I bought an HDMI VGA adapter (http://www.amazon.de/Ligawo-Konverter-Converter-Wandler-Adapter/dp/B00521RY4W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1363210594&sr=8-2 http://www.amazon.de/Ligawo-Konverter-Converter-Wandler-Adapter/dp/B00521RY4W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1363210594&sr=8-2) but when I connect it to e.g. an LG L227WT monitor, it wakes up from sleep mode, but the screen remains black. The adapter works with the same setup but with a different laptop, so the adapter works. How can I solve this?

Thanks

Jones

Hi Johannes,

We do not recommend using those adapters due to those may or may not work. Since VGA is analog and HDMI is digital there is a chance the converter will not work correctly. I recommend you try using cable with either analog or digital signals on both ends.

Thanks!

Hello,

What is the reason for it to only work sometimes? If it works with other laptops on the same setup then I can't see a reason why it shouldn't work with the Samsung, as its the same hdmi connection.

I Know an adapter isn't the optimal solution, however sometimes there is no way around it if e.g a Beamer only supports VGA.

Thanks

Jones

Hi Johannes,

What happens is that since those adapters need to convert the signal from digital to analog then it is more difficult the adapter will work properly. This link has more information about those adapters/converters http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-033418.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-033418.htm

Thanks!

I am surprised by your answer.

I'm in the same case.

I have a HDMI adapter - VGA.

It works on HP and DELL laptop but not on my Toshiba satallite U920T.

On this hardware I just have a HDMI port and I use this adapter to connect my computer on video projectors cause it just has VGA input.

When I plug the videoprojetor, windows detects a new monitor and then deletes it repeatedly.

any solution?

Hello TREMOLLET,

As mentioned before, we cannot guarantee a correct functionality on the graphics controller when using video adapters.

From our side, I can recommend you to install the latest driver from our side. You can get the driver at the following link:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22842&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=Drivers https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22842&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=Drivers

Another step we recommend is to use a straight connection to the device and in that way we can discard hardware issues.

I have the same HDMI to VGA adapter, with a Dell vostro 2521 which only has HDMI thus why i need the adapter cause the projector only has VGA, the adapter works on other laptops but not this one with the intel hd 4000 graphics, the HDMI adapter on the notebook works and has been tested, I have installed new graphics and chipset drivers, this problem is really frustrating, is there any solution to this problem yet?

Hello Gavinwat,

Since the direct connection of HDMI is working in your computer it seems that the adapter is the one causing conflicts. Due to this reason, I recommend you testing a different adapter or testing an active adapter with your computer.
