I keep getting random hangs on Core I7-2600k using Integrated graphics.

Hi,

I purchased a few machines for myself and clients consisting of a Core I7-2600k and a Asrock H67DE3 Motherboard, 16GB memory running Windows 7 (Can give other specifications, but not sure if relevant).

I chose the H67 and a 2600k as overclocking is not that important but I wanted the 3000 graphics as it is meant to be better in the K variant.

When watching video or similar activities, at random, the system will just freeze for anything from 5 seconds (which happens frequently) down to around half an hour, the message that comes up is as follows:

I have only forcefully reset it twice when it hung for over 20 minutes and I needed to get on with work urgently. This is a log of the reliability monitor which shows this has been happening a lot! I am getting this around 5 or more times a day.

I purchased 4 machines for my clients and one for me. One of the people the machine was for was complaining of similar problems, and as they are a good client and I am known for reliability, I simply purchased 4 Nvidia cards and installed them just in case the other 3 develop similar problems - this seemed to fix the problem for them.

Whilst annoying for myself, I was ok with it, until yesterday, it froze whilst copying to a USB stick and it made the stick corrupt.

However, I would really like to get this resolved for mine and possibly revert back to the built in graphics for the client (bit useless having the K model CPU on a board that doesn't support Overclocking whilst not using internal graphics!)

I was 99% sure it was a driver issue, but during the last freeze, I tried pressing the reset button and nothing happened (power button worked as normal). - I am not sure if this is relevant - now that the machine is EFI and not standard BIOS, I thought it is possible that basic functions such as this are handled differently.

I originally purchased Sandy Bridge machines with the problem chipset - these were all to replace those and I do not feel confident in the platform at the moment!

The problem could be with : Driver (still personally what I think, but I could be wrong), Motherboard or cpu.

In case it helps, here is the detailed log from Reliability monitor after it has recovered.

"If there is some way to record the bug or error I would be happy to deliver. Maybe that would help someone to help us."

Obviously not. Asked Robert_U some time ago and got no answer. They don't care much for problems.

Spacoom, which stable version?

Я имел ввиду, что нашел причину проблемы и нашел стабильное состояние - 75 Герц.

Hello,

please continue investigating.

Programs that get random hangs so far:

Mozilla Firefox 4.0

Autodesk Sketchbook Pro (desperatly need to use it for university)

Blender

Last two programs also crash beeing in background mode. I always notice when my CPU fan starts to go max for no apperant reason. The fan behaves like this because one core or thread gets suddenly hung close to 100% utilization. I need to kill program to make cpu cool down then.

Also

I have a configuration as follows:

onboard DVI and VGA out for 2 tft-screens. (workmode)

PCI-Express graphics card for s-video out to old tv. (when watching videos or movies)

However, everytime that I use anything in fullscreen in workmode, my graphics card starts to rev up its fan as if used too. Considering the virtue software one should think that wouldn´t need to happen. I believe this too be a bug too. Screen seperation needs to be improoved. Don´t know who is responsible: Microsoft, Intel or Lucid Logix. But since I needed to post here anyways I wanted to include this problem.

I am using

ASROCk z68pro3-m and have the latest drivers installed. Not bios though. Bios still 1.0

greets,

Kapi

ps. it is getting unbearable. I need to use a reliable system to work proberly. Happy that ist doesn´t crash while posting this.

Hello.

I reinstalled Windows 7 X64 SP1 to assure to have a clean OS.

I Installed only 2 drivers for the Mainboard Asrock Z68 Pro3-M from the Asrock Homepage.

VGA driver ver:15.22.1.64.2361 and INF driver ver:9.2.0.1021. No Intel Management Engine Software.

Still have 1-2 driver resets a day.

I will now try the test driver (Version 15.22.4.64.2418) for testing found here:

(64 Bit) http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20094 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20094

Hello!

I also have problems with HD 3000 - /thread/22930?tstart=0 http://communities.intel.com/thread/22930?tstart=0

But I found a stable version! The system operates at resolutions of 1024x768 and 1280x1024 and 75 Hz with no errors and crashes. And the reason is the frequency of updates! At resolutions above 1280x1024 frequency 59 Hz or 60 Hz, these frequencies are the problems begin.

In my opinion we are all united Windows 7 64, and Z68

For testing purpose It is a very good Idea to try 75HZ. (Trying with 2418 driver)

Performance Index and using Windows doesn't reset the Graphic Driver. (But I tested it only 3 Hours)

Windows 7 Performance Index 3d Game reports only 4.9 with 75hz.

I set the my resolution to1440x900 75 Hz. (Native TFT resolution is 1680x1050, so it's not optimal and quality is not so fine.)

Higher 75Hz resolution is not possible because the Intel Driver reports 'not enough bandwidth'.

This is no acceptable solution, but for some testing days it's ok.

We are not complaining about 3d game problems, but Sandy Bridge has to work at least very reliable in a desktop/Office environment!

Hi,

i don´t know if the solution with 75hz helps since non of my monitors are able to work with 75hz.

Momentarily I use an old pci-e graphics card as i really had to work on my maschine.

There are two reasons that I wanted to buy this kind of cpu:

1. Save power during desktop mode

2. not using a discrete gpu for at least 6 month

3. save power with Virtue from Lucidlogix

However here is what I got:

1. Non of the above +

2. Random crashes during desktop related applications if I use the HD3000 which I don´t anymore. No! this should not be the solution provided.

3. No support.

I do understand that it is very hard to understand our problems as we probably are a minority but... I will complain more and more aggressivly if there is no progress developing a solution because I also understand that a thread-view-count of more than 7000 is not so little afterall. Maybe there is more to it. Also Other threads suggest that the HD3000 needs to be taken care of asap.

I wish I could help more but... I can not.

My temporary solution is to use a discrete gpu.

with regards

kapi

here is one more thing I like to ask: anyone has this as a bug

.

I would just like to chime in and add that I am facing the same problem. I am using the ASRock Z68 Pro3 with Intel Core i5 2500K and no discrete graphics card. This is extremely infuriating.

Is this just an ASRock issue? Can't Intel at least confirm this?

I have the same problem, tried driver from AsRock Setup-Disc and from Intel

Setup:

AsRock Z68 Pro3 (BIOS 1.40)

Intel i5-2500

Windows 7 64bit

24" LCD @ 60Hz over DVI

sorry for my bad english...

Got the same errors multiple times. AsRock Pro3-m / I5 2500k

Managed to solve the Problem:

There are 3 Pins (+5V, - ,GND) for the Reset SW connector on my Board. My case had a 2 Pin (+5V,GND) connector. So it doesn't fit... It could be that you made the same mistake

I unplug this connectors and the errors didn't return till now (3 Days).

Asrock posted a new Bios with a fixed voltage setting. Now it's 1,250 IGP Voltage in Idle/2D instead 0,800 Voltage. Maybe the voltage was too low and caused the instability. You might try the new Bios 1.60.
