I7-2600K Intel HD Graphics (igdkmd64) Crash Win 7 x64 when using HDMI

Hi,

Getting frustrated - help please. Every time I try to use an LCD TV (using mobo HDMI-out to TV HDMI-in) it results in a BSOD with STOP 0x16—telling me that the igdkmd64 did not recover. Usually before the BSOD I get something like "Display driver igdkmd64.sys stopped responding and has recovered" several times, and them–KABOOM.

The system works fine with a VGA monitor without the HDMI attached.

This is a clean Win 7x64 (Home Premium) install on a minimal system:

ASUS P8H67 B3 (Realtec HD Audio, and Realtec Gbit Network);

i7 2600K with Intel HD3000 on processor graphics

4 Gb RAM (2x 2Gb) DDR3 1333

HD - Crucial C300 128Gb SSD AHCPI.

Supposedly (?) I have the newest HW drivers

The culprit TV's are an older Olevia 42"-1080i, and a newer 26" VIZIO 1080p. Both are HDCP compliant, and both work fine with HDMI from a DVD, A/V Receiver or cable box.

So far I have tried swapping HDMI cables, tried using a DVI-out to HDMI adapter (TVs don't have DVI ports) – same result. Tried removing one memory stick (leaving only 2Gb on a single slot) same problem. Also tried with various BIOS settings -- no help. The same things happens if I booth in Safe Mode with networking, but not in Safe Mode. So, I disabled the network drivers and devices, and rebooted normally --but didn't help, same BSOD.

Have been searching the web and forums, but nothing seems to be helping.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Arun,

Please try to use 2219. I've SB with my Ceton. It is not perfect but I can move my WMC between my plasma and Panny AE4000 PJ.

hlkc,

I have tried the 2219 drivers from ASUS website and althought I don't get BSOD and am able to run an ASUS 24" flat panel LCD throught HDMI, I am unable to get any picture from my EPSON 8350. I have the HDMI from P8H67-M EVO running to an Onkyo TX-NR3008 receiver and then to the ASUS LCD and EPSON 8350. All my other devices like PS3, Verizon DVR all work fine connected this way on both the LCD and projector. The HTPC is the only device that is killing me. Any ideas?

BTW, the Epson projector just goes to sleep after a few seconds as if no signal is being received. Thanks.

Arun,

Did you mean your HTPC to AVR and one output to LCD and the other output to your Mits? I am not doing that way. My HTPC, P8Z68 V Pro's HDMI output goes to AVR and then to my plasma. the 2nd DVI output to my PJ, AE4000 HDMI input. It works that way but the AE 4K is not accepting 23HZ just 24 Hz.

hlkc,

Ok, you lost me a little bit at the end. Yes, you are right - my setup is HTPC to the Onkyo AVR and then from the AVR to LCD and Epson since the AVR has two simultaneous HDMI outputs. This is only way I can do things due to my physical setup of home theater. Could you please explain what you mean by AE4000 not accepting 23Hz and only 24Hz? Is that the HDMI sync frequency and could that be the issue with my Epson also? Thanks.

Arun,

Can you try from your MV 2nd port to your Mits PJ?

I don't get 23HZ BD contents from my DVI MB output to my PJ, just 1080P 24Hz.

hlkc,

Do you mean connect the Epson PJ to the HDMI port on AVR that is currently connected to the LCD? Thanks

Arun,

No, can you try to connect other output port in your MB which is available to your Epson and see?

To anyone still wasting there time with Intel and their fundamentally flawed graphics driver, might I recommend this article from anandtech.net on discrete HTPC GPU's that consume as little power as possible.

Newegg has the EVGA GT 430 down to $45 ($65 with a $20 mail in rebate). Ordered 1 for my main HTPC.... hopefully it won't tax my 380W power supply out of commission. Going to have to sink another few hundred into my Sandy Bridge Celeron based mini HTPC's to be able to install these in new cases with better PSU's and an actual PCI slot in the back of the case.

Not only does the Intel graphics driver cause a BSOD, but also memory bleeds when combined with Ceton cards and some HD premium programming. Watch the same problem program on a system with a discrete GPU and voila... no problem. They still have the graphics drivers that obliterate a system on Windows Update so anyone who DL's it will toast their system and no way to get in to fix it.... Really pathetic. I guess this is what happens when AMD sits out of the game for a few years.

And before I get banned for speaking truth to power, I've bought over 50 Intel chips in the last 18 months for custom builds but this generation of Sandy Bridge chips has been nothing but a nightmare. Given the good press they are still getting, it's nice to see just how bought off the IT tech journal community is.

I ended up putting in an extra Radeon HD2400 I had lying around and HDMI output works like a charm now with both the LCD and Epson PJ through the AVR. Almost have WMC configured the way I want except I got this error

"Video Error

Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer"

I researched a bit and found out I have no one else but good old Microsoft to thank for this error. You have to check "Auto Volume" under DVD settings which disables Dolby sound output to get rid of this error. Now I am stuck with just 2 channel stereo sound.

I know this is not the right forum to lash out on Microsoft, but no wonder Apple and Google are eating Microsoft's lunch. This problem has been reported online for almost 2 years and still has not been fixed.

check this one 🙂

there's new "Play to" functionality in WMP 12, you can push (stream with seeking via DLNA protocol) video files to supported devices like LCD tvs; now, on my setup, this works well EXCEPT for a situation when I choose different DPI than the ones predefined in Windows 7 standard dialog (100%, 125%, 150%); if I choose user defined value, "Play to" dialog crashes :-))

it's known problem, it was hard to find the solution (apparently not so much people use user defined ..) and it's totally ridiculous and unrelated to the function of "Play to" 😜

Just wanted to post some new info. I went back to the ASUS 2219 driver and it seems that 59Hz refresh works fine through HDMI and I am able to use both my LCD TV and Epson projector without BSOD. Maybe the problem I was having before is that I had a 24" LCD monitor hooked up which didn't support 59Hz and when I switched to the Epson, I would get no display. It does give me an error message when outputing to Epson 8350 that screen resolution is changed and not optimum but when I check the resolution it is still 1920 x 1080.

The only major kink in the whole setup now is that at 59Hz, the desktop doesn't properly scale on the LCD TV. The gradations for scaling in the graphics properties for the intel HD control panel are too crude and increment by 5% which makes perfect scaling impossible. Also, if you scale the LCD TV, then I presume the Epson projector image will get out of scale. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Solved the above problem by enabling Just Scan option in my LG LCD TV and everything is working great now.

looks to me like big system builders (Dell e.g.) are priority here for Intel and not customers like us, guys; geeks who buy computer stuff constitute just small niche not loud enough to attract attention from wider public; so basically "end customers" get working thing (because e.g. Dell delivers own correct bios) and we get advice to buy discrete graphics..

can be just a coincidence, but try to google for "intel hdmi bsod" and what you'll find is that this is not the only integrated graphics with unresolved issues..

Martin,

If it is the case, it will be sad, very sad to know that Intel treat us, the niche small market, this way.

I think they are trying to repair, it's obvious based on some comments and the test driver. As I said it seems they are struggling. Maybe the driver is fundamentally "wrong" when using newer digital outputs in combination with newer TVs and displays. If this is the case it will take a long time or it will not be fixed till next generation with new written drivers (which i doubt).

There are different levels of "trying". I prefer "must work as expected before meets market". The one we're experienceing can (just my opinion) be "give them one developer, so they shut their mouths".

Is this thread specific to the i7-2600K?

Just got myself i5-2405s with Gigabyte H67A-UD3H-B3 and noticed the same BSOD and screen tearing when initialising... Reverted back to my PCIe graphics card for the time being while this is being looked into.

Does the older driver apply to me too if using a different motherboard and cpu?

Thanks

It should apply to you. If I'm not wrong driver 2219 shoud solve the BSOD issue and you could try the newer test driver 2401 which should solve it as well but comes with timing issues for some users.

not just timing issues; no HDMI audio device was present (yes, I know, where & how..) for me

Thanks Yups. Wasn't sure if it was a typo for 2279 instead of 2219. I couldn't find a link for 2219 but downloaded 15.21.8.64.2279 from one of the early posts in the thread and seems to be working fine so far, no BSODs and no timing issues thankfully.

Previously, mine was always BSOD'ing after "Starting Windows" when it was about to display the logon screen. This was for 2361 from Gigabyte. I'm surprised Gigabyte are still hosting the driver. When I tried the 2401 test driver, I was not getting any signal through HDMI or DVI so that'll probably be the timing issues you mention.

So far 2279 is working fine.
