I7-2600K Intel HD Graphics (igdkmd64) Crash Win 7 x64 when using HDMI

Hi,

Getting frustrated - help please. Every time I try to use an LCD TV (using mobo HDMI-out to TV HDMI-in) it results in a BSOD with STOP 0x16—telling me that the igdkmd64 did not recover. Usually before the BSOD I get something like "Display driver igdkmd64.sys stopped responding and has recovered" several times, and them–KABOOM.

The system works fine with a VGA monitor without the HDMI attached.

This is a clean Win 7x64 (Home Premium) install on a minimal system:

ASUS P8H67 B3 (Realtec HD Audio, and Realtec Gbit Network);

i7 2600K with Intel HD3000 on processor graphics

4 Gb RAM (2x 2Gb) DDR3 1333

HD - Crucial C300 128Gb SSD AHCPI.

Supposedly (?) I have the newest HW drivers

The culprit TV's are an older Olevia 42"-1080i, and a newer 26" VIZIO 1080p. Both are HDCP compliant, and both work fine with HDMI from a DVD, A/V Receiver or cable box.

So far I have tried swapping HDMI cables, tried using a DVI-out to HDMI adapter (TVs don't have DVI ports) – same result. Tried removing one memory stick (leaving only 2Gb on a single slot) same problem. Also tried with various BIOS settings -- no help. The same things happens if I booth in Safe Mode with networking, but not in Safe Mode. So, I disabled the network drivers and devices, and rebooted normally --but didn't help, same BSOD.

Have been searching the web and forums, but nothing seems to be helping.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Hi Robert,

The driver works on my computer. I have a iiyama monitor and a GIGABYTE Motherboard GA-HA65M-D2H-B3. The resolution is 1920 x 1200 and the refresh is 59 Hz.

As soon as close or minmize WMC won't able to return to same refresh rate, Roll back to previous 2219 driver

P8H61-M:

latest driver resolved issue with screen resolution after win 7 boot being out of monitor specs however introduced another flaws:

1.) as others have reported, 23 & 59 Hz modes enables 1024x768@60 instead

2.) after driver installation there's a couple of popup (standard windows, it probably has something to do with signatures of those files, but I'm no expert..) windows asking for permission to run igfx_tray.exe (something like this) and some other files whose names I don't remember; wouldn't be an issue if ...

3.) there's no hdmi audio device, so no audio over hdmi on my htpc, pretty bad, so reverting to ASUS' provided 2266 but..

4.) those popups are still there (probably, as I cannot see them because of "resolution out of monitor range problem"), moreover they probably do something with focus & keybindings so Ctrl+Alt+F4 doesn't work which renders my abilities pretty limited (another option to get screen is to suspend & resume my system, yep) and ...

5.) my hdmi audio device is still gone

result:

regarding visuals, I have what I had + as a bonus, I have no audio over hdmi now;

terrific job, thanks, I'm astonished

that's exactly the situation I didn't want to be in; try & fail instead of plug & play; shame, I don't have nerves to play with un/installing drivers just to get basic functionality; going to pub now, I'd appreciate help how to get back my hdmi audio device; help different from "uninstall driver, install driver" or any kind of "have you tried turning it on and off again"..

and yes, I'm talking to that Intel developer hovering around here

Tried 64bit driver, crashes are gone but other problems appeared (or were exposed) now...

With DVI to monitor I connected HDMI to TV set... DVI signal went wacky and nothing on HDMI until I removed the DVI.

On HDMI I then tried to set 1920x1080x60Hz which worked... except the displayed image is with quite noticable overscan (as in, the displayed window is clipped on all sides).

Returning to DVI only to monitor and everything seems to work normal (as they did before).

Martin,, can you go to Control Panel, Sound, Playback Tab and make sure HDMI Audio is the default device.

Robert_U, if only there would be such device (and yes, I have display disabled & turned off devices checked) 😕

Contrary to what you might think about your customers who bought your company's product, some of them are not idiots and are able to find out that it wasn't delivered what was promised..

I'll rather say it directly as my experience tells me Amies don't get sarcasm sometimes: there's no HDMI audio device listed among playback devices. And it was there listed with previous driver. Period. Now what.

Really Martin,, trying to help you here,, the attitude is not necessary.

Seriously Robert, I know it's not your fault, but I bought my piece of hardware in January, and I still have to use a dedicated VGA because Intel hasn't managed to stabilise my device so I keep getting random freezes every 5-10 minutes. I'm honestly disappointed, I would not have thought that of Intel. Lots of people in my view built their rigs on IGP, what's with them now, especially if they don't have a VGA at hand to use unlike me?

No problem, back from pub 🙂 , OS (fortunately I'm still in experimental phase) reinstallation, things works for me now. Just that "resolution out of spec." problem remains, but I usually do not boot (infinite sleep/resume), so it's not a big issue for me. I'll wait for some newer version when nobody will report any flaws. I just wanted to say -> this hw (core i3 in my case) is nothing without that driver working correctly. And looks like it's a lottery at best now.

Asus released a new Bios for P8H67-M EVO. Maybe with an updated video bios. Just for info.

I tried the new BIOS. It does NOT update the video bios. One still has to regress to 2219. The newer drivers did not work with HDMI under the new BIOS.

That's crap from Asus. My cheap Asrock has 2104 since march.

Can confirm the same for P8H61M, new BIOS v. 0702 is out, video BIOS still 2080. Haven't tried the new driver with this version of BIOS (not video BIOS).

All working on my:

Gigabyte GA-H67A-UD3H-B3 ATX Board

Intel Core i5-2500

New to Intel Graphics, so using Cntl-Alt-F4 is valuable!

Hi

I have been monitoring this thread for a couple of day now and thought it was time to give you some more data (thanks for your efforts by the way).

I run Windows 7 Pro x64 on an ASUS P8H67-I Deluxe B3 motheroard, the CPU is a Core i5 2405S and it has a single 4Gb module of ram from Corsair at 1066Mhz (SO-DIMM). Drivers are the latest from ASUS, bios is the newest available.

I have had the same issue with all of the 23xx drivers but not the 22xx or the new 2401 driver. As far as I can tell, all of the drivers that do not result in a BSOD behave the same. However, all of them also has the same 'overscan' issue mentioned in another thread, that is, the image is cropped on all sides. The top of the default sized windows task bar is barely visible, and it's the same on all sides. Sound, however, is working fine. VGA output is good on both my TV (Sony Bravia KDL40EX503) and my monitor (Benq 2420HDBL) , DVI output seems to work well on both devices as well. DVI (at computer) to HDMI does work on the tv, HDMI(at computer) to DVI (at the Benq) also works fine. I tried installing Linux, and then it works great with HDMI-HDMI at 1080p (but without sound) so it does not seem to be a hardware issue.

Hi again

A friend of mine suggested I look into the tv settings, so I did. However I did not expect anything to come out of it since it "just worked" under Linux. However, after having pushed all the buttons on my remote simultaneously, now it works... I have sound and 1080p inside the frame with HDMI to HDMI. I cannot tell you what change in tv settings made a difference, but I disabled everything that said "auto". I'm at a total loss for an explanation.

Things are still rather flaky however. Changing any screen setting from the usual windows dialogs will render the whole thing black, flickering or lower the resolution. Trying to apply the same changes through the intel tool works however. I suppose that may be why people are reporting problems with applications that are changing screen settings?

ad overscan -- this can be influenced by tv settings, bugs formerly reported cannot

"I suppose that may be why people are reporting problems with applications that are changing screen settings?"

people are reporting problems using words and sentences, that in some cases make sense; those bugs are well described through the thread, some of them are reported by multiple users; you may have discovered another one on different setup, doesn't mean all other are related and same

Thanks for the advice guys I'll have to check on the video BIOS.

The problem for me is that I can never get a single digital vidoe port to work once the OS is up.

The other interesting thing is that I can reinstall the driver and when it is done voila the digital ports work... but it requires a reboot and when that is done it's back to just the VGA video port and none of the digital video ports work... so I can run it with dual monitors if I don't reboot it which is what I've done for now.

Just don't want to have to run the driver installer every time after I do a reboot.
