Dear Team..
I am a curious person..
Having tried almost everything to get my display working with Windows 8.
At wits end coming to you..
There was a vague thread with a similar name, with resolution stating its switchable graphics.
Let me elaborate on my problem..
I am using a Dell Inspiron 15 (N5110)
It is working on Intel HD 3000 On board Graphics chipset, as per the manufacturer it does not have any other GPU other than intel.
When i install Windows 8, display remains should i say till a few minute's on the first reboot all i get after the BootUp is Dark BLACK Screen.
It look alive but seem literally Dead..
Annoyed with no options i assumed HDMI also will be blank but to my utter surprise.. There was every bit of display on HDMI.. Just the laptop is dead..
I have referred to the article..
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-031103.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-031103.htm
I dont have other options, Manufacturer Provided Drivers also dont help...
I need to move to Win 8 due to work requirements..
Kindly need all your help i can get..

That is the driver from Dell i used...
I am currently on Win 7 X64.
6GB ram running a i5.
Kindest Regards

Hey Jake the fix is easy. I figured this out last year I don't know how but I did since I have the same laptop
After you're done installing windows 8 or 10.
1. Connect your laptop hdmi cable to either an external monitor or TV. You'll see the display.
2. Open this link : http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/inspiron-15r-n5110/drivers Product Support | Dell US
3. Select 'Find it myself'
4. Go to the Video section and download 'Intel HD Graphics 3000 Driver'.
5. Then Go to Bios Section and download 'Dell Inspiron N5110 System BIOS'
6. Then install the Intel HD graphics driver and restart your laptop.
7. Then install the Bios File you downloaded and restart your laptop.
8. Viola! Unplug the HDMI and you're good to go .
Cheers!

Thanks for joining the community. I understand you have been getting issues with Intel Graphics Driver after installing Windows 8.
At this stage, I recommend installing the driver manually, this means, you can force the installation of the driver in the registry.
For instructions about manual installation go here:
http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-022355.htm http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-022355.htm
Please filter by operating system and try to install the driver when it finishes downloading, to verify that your system will accept it.

Please bear in mind, Intel generic video drivers are not going to work for Apple computers, the reason about this is because the graphics engine driver is not the same as the ones Intel provided on the downloadcenter.intel.com web site. You need to check on your computer manufacturer's web site to download drivers for your computer model:

It's now 2015, Windows 10 is out but I still haven't managed to get rid of the black screen at boot in my laptop that has Intel HD Graphics 3000.

Thank you allan_intel but HDMI detection isn't even an issue here. It probably works fine although I haven't tested it since I do not have any use for it right now. What I'm having problems with is the display on the laptop itself, the laptop screen turning black after the windows logo screen comes on.

Every time there's a newer version of Windows launched, I get excited and it turns out to be for nothing because it doesn't work
I did find a work around for this problem but I don't want to put undue strain on my hard disk just so I can use the newer version of Windows.
