Intel Arc B580 driver issues on Ubuntu

Dear intel Support team,

I have recently upgraded my Arc A750 to Arc B580 and since the upgrade i face issues with Ubuntu.

Arc750 was working fine on Ubuntu 24 and after i upgraded to B580 i faced driver issues.

I did follow the guide on https://dgpu-docs.intel.com/driver/client/overview.html and attempted to install new drivers however packages failed couldn't fix this.

Screen is flickering every few minutes randomly confirming driver comparability issues !

Then i decided to upgrade Ubuntu to 25.10 which is recommended for native support however issue persists.

Error messages are:

"

$clinfo | grep "Device Name"
Device Name Intel(R) Arc(TM) B580 Graphics
Device Name Intel(R) Arc(TM) B580 Graphics

installed intel-platform-cse-dkms package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127
Errors were encountered while processing:

"

Please kindly advise how to proceed to fix this !

Dear Dean, Thank you so much for your follow up.

At this point its not easy for me to roll back to Ubuntu 24.04 due to dual boot considerations.

Issue i'm facing is not Driver related but its to do with battle-image architecture compatibility with PCIe GEN detection in linux. only observable when ubuntu is running and when i boot in Windows, works perfect no problem what so ever.

I appreciate If you could provide me URL on officially supported Linux versions for B580 so i can track that for updates.

If i need any further help, i will raise dedicated support case respectfully.

Many Thanks,

Shahin

Hi Shahin51,

Thank you for reaching out to the Intel Community Forum. I appreciate your message and want to assure you that I’m here to assist you with your concern. To better understand the issue and provide accurate support, could you please share the following details:

1. Is DKMS installed on your system?

You can verify this by running:

which dkms

dpkg -l | grep dkms

2. If DKMS is not installed, did you attempt to install it using: sudo apt install dkms

3. Which installation method from the Intel guide did you follow?

4. Did you completely remove the previous Arc A750 drivers before installing the B580 drivers? Please confirm whether a full cleanup was performed.

5. What exact error messages appeared during the driver package installation, prior to the dpkg --configure errors? Providing the full error output will help diagnose the issue.

6. Is this a clean hardware swap, or are both GPUs (Arc A750 and B580) installed simultaneously?

7. Are you using any external monitors? If yes, what type of connection is being used (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort)?

Additionally, to help us better understand your system configuration and provide accurate support, we kindly request that you share the Intel® System Support Utility (SSU) logs from your device. These logs contain important details about your hardware and software environment, which are crucial for troubleshooting.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Download and run the Intel® SSU application.
  2. The tool will generate a text file containing your system information.
  3. Refer to this guide for detailed instructions: Help Guide for the Intel® System Support Utility
  4. Once completed, please attach the generated file to your response.

If you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,

Dear Kent, Thank you for looking into this for me.

Here are my answers:

1. Is DKMS installed on your system?

Yes installed

ii dkms 3.2.0-1ubuntu1 all Dynamic Kernel Module System (DKMS)

2. If DKMS is not installed, did you attempt to install it using: sudo apt install dkms

3. Which installation method from the Intel guide did you follow?

Followed steps 1,1,3 and 4 mentioned here https://dgpu-docs.intel.com/driver/client/overview.html

4. Did you completely remove the previous Arc A750 drivers before installing the B580 drivers? Please confirm whether a full cleanup was performed.

Initially i did not perform full cleanup and upon hardware upgrade, Ubuntu lost the Graphic settings and resolutions completely.

i had to force PCIE gen3 on the bios to recover. however now that seems not significant.

Upon troubleshooting, later i cleaned up and re-installed the driver with no change.

screen is flickering very few minutes and file windows and text editors change colors as i open up !

5. What exact error messages appeared during the driver package installation, prior to the dpkg --configure errors? Providing the full error output will help diagnose the issue.

I remember seeing this error many times:

post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127

6. Is this a clean hardware swap, or are both GPUs (Arc A750 and B580) installed simultaneously?

Clean hardware swap only B580 is installed.

7. Are you using any external monitors? If yes, what type of connection is being used (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort)?

Yes using Samsung UA43 with HDMI connection.

Please also find the SSU output file attached.

Hi Shahin51,

Thank you for waiting, and I hope you’re doing well. Could you please share a short video demonstrating the issue? Ideally, include a screen recording so we can verify whether this is a driver-related problem or a hardware issue. Additionally, please note that version 25.10 is not officially supported by the graphics card.

If possible, let me know if you can try using Ubuntu 25.04. After that, please attempt to update the graphics card drivers again.

Dear Kent, i will endeavour to setup Ubuntu 24.04 and test drivers again if i get a chance.

I'm happy to inform that error due to driver issues are resolved after removal and re-install of both DKMS and drivers so i'm not getting post-installation script errors anymore.

Also i'm getting superb performance in Windows OS from of this GPU and no problems so far in Windows what so ever.

Only on Ubuntu i get random monitor flickering which i think its related to PCIe GEN detection and compatibility. Windows is very forgiving on this well Linux is not ! that said, never had any issues with A750.

Anyways, please provide me URL on officially supported Linux versions on B580 and i will keep an eye on that.

Also i use B580 as interim GPU until new Intel Arc with 16G dedicated get released hopefully next year so an update on that also would be appreciated.

Once you've roll back to Ubuntu 24.04 and if the issue still persist, feel free to reach out to us through any of our support channels: Intel Contact Options or post again in the Intel Community.

As for your request officially supported Linux versions for B580. It would be best to get the most latest version. The Intel Arc B580 is supported by modern, rolling-release Linux distributions and those with recent kernels and Mesa drivers.

I’ll proceed to close this inquiry. Please note that this thread will no longer be monitored once closed. If you need further assistance or have additional questions, don’t hesitate to submit a new request.
