Intel Driver Update Utility claims I have version 20.19 but latest is 15.33

Why does this utility claim the latest version has a version number LOWER than what I currently have?

Why does it want to install 15.xx over top of 20.xx?

Intel Graphics Driver for Windows 7* 8.1* and Windows 10 [15.33] Versions 20.19.15.4331 (installed)vs. 15.33.42.4358 (latest) It has a check mark pre-selected.

What should I do?

I am on Windows 10, 64 bit. Samsung Ultra book 9

Only the four-digit number is relevant.

Hi rcp45,

Let me know if Stefan3D's answer clarifies your question.

I double checked the specs of your laptop Samsung Ultra book 9, I found it has an i5-2537M with Intel® HD Graphics 3000. If I got the right information from your device Windows® 10 update will provide you with the latest graphics driver.

I took a leap and installed. Actually, the graphics driver was only one of several drivers called out so I installed them all.

Things are OK, but it wasn't the smoothest sailing:

  1. First scan/download/install of three drivers: For one of the drivers (forget which) got a message that the system did not meet minimum requirements. I let the rest install.
  2. Reboot and re-run the scan: It called out the same set of drivers and told me the same version numbers installed vs latest, as if nothing had happened before.
  3. Scanned, downloaded, and installed again. The process now offered up to "repair" the installations of the three drivers instead of "install" so I let that happen.
  4. Reboot and upon install (actually repair) three drivers. One driver, "Intel Proset/Wireless Software for Buetooth for Technology for Windows 10", asked me if I wanted to install old version over newer version. I said no. Scan still shows it needs to be updated. All other drivers show thy are at latest level.
  5. This is where I left it.

Hi rcp45,

Just to confirm are you getting these messages while running Windows® 10 update or Intel® Update Utility. The best way to get the latest drivers for your laptop is using Windows® 10 update.

Click Windows button>Settings>Update and Security

I used Intel Update Utility. Windows Update runs automatically and I wasn't paying any attention to it. Just ran it and all it found was an update to Windows Defender. Those come in most days.

I will ignore the Intel Update Utility from now on. I think I downloaded it while trying to fix a problem. Almost everything is working OK now, but I have one problem: getting to a specific web page. Three different browsers on two different computers (both Win 10) report a problem with it. It is an HP web page related to my printer. HP claims it is a Windows problem but I don't believe them! Since it is an unimportant web page I choose to ignore the problem for now. Perhaps HP will get around to fixing it. It used to work.

The page is at https://printables.hpconnected.com/ https://printables.hpconnected.com/

The error message is "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."

Hi rcp45,

According to the warning message, Hewlett Packard changes the location of the website. Maybe they removed it from the sserver.

Mike,

I talked to HP support. They said they had no trouble getting to that web page.

Are you saying you get an error if you use the link in my post?

Bob

Hi rcp45,

The page is requesting account credentials. In my case, I don't have.

Well, that's as it should be.

Must be something wrong on my end. I'll have to dig deeper.

Thanks for checking.
