Intel Driver & Support Assistant returning error message

Win 11 25H2. Since yesterday, Intel icon in notification area shows an update is available, but at your site a scan always returns "Sorry, something went wrong while trying to scan." First time I've run into this.

Grant what network access and how? It's never been an issue before for any program, and I've not made any network changes to my system lately, unless Windows 11 updates did something. Thanks,

Troubleshooting Checks:

  • Have you tried restarting your system?
  • Can you verify whether the Intel® DSA Service and Intel® DSA Updater Service are running?
    • Open the Windows* search bar → type Services → locate Intel® Driver & Support Assistant.
    • If the service is not running, please right‑click and select Start.
    • If it is running, try right‑clicking and selecting Restart.
  • Are there any pending Windows updates?
  • Which browser are you using to run Intel DSA?
  • Have you cleared your browser cache and restarted the browser?
  • Have you tried using a different browser?
  • Do you have any browser extensions or plugins enabled? If so, have you tested with them disabled?
  • Are you using any antivirus or security software? If yes, have you attempted temporarily disabling it?
  • Are you running Intel DSA with administrator privileges?
  • Are you behind a corporate firewall or using a VPN?
  • Did you download the latest version of Intel DSA directly from Intel’s website?

 

Request for System Information (SSU Logs):

To help us assess your system configuration and provide more precise support, please generate and share the Intel® System Support Utility (SSU) report:

 

  1. Download and run the Intel® SSU tool.
  2. Allow it to scan your system—this will generate a text file with your system details.
  3. For reference, you may follow this guide: Help Guide for the Intel® System Support Utility.
  4. Please attach the generated file with your reply.

  • Which browser are you using to run Intel DSA?  OPERA, EDGE, CHROME
  • Have you cleared your browser cache and restarted the browser? YES
  • Have you tried using a different browser? YES
  • Do you have any browser extensions or plugins enabled? If so, have you tested with them disabled? NO (NEVER HAS BEEN NEEDED)
  • Are you using any antivirus or security software? If yes, have you attempted temporarily disabling it? TURNED OFF MALWAREBYTES & WINDOWS DEFENDER --> NO EFFECT
  • Are you running Intel DSA with administrator privileges? NOT THAT I KNOW OF (STARTING FROM NOTIFICATION AREA)
  • Are you behind a corporate firewall or using a VPN? NO
  • Did you download the latest version of Intel DSA directly from Intel’s website? ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS  - PROBLEM IS GETTING TO THE NEW UPDATE

While trying different browsers noted above, Firefox was the last and the update worked there. You might want to check why.

Firefox screenshot attached. I've never had to leave Opera to update DSA or drivers before. Several years with this mobo.

ASUS board purchased in 2022, so install and updates done from Intel site since then, all via Opera browser.

Well, I should add that the update attempt in Firefox has been In Progress, running on and on, for close to 10 minutes and the progress bar has gone nowhere in that time.

Thank you for providing the requested information and confirming that the IDSA works on the Firefox browser. Please try the following steps to resolve the IDSA issue you are experiencing with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge:


Steps to Fix the IDSA Update Issue in Chrome/Edge

  1. Open Browser Settings (Chrome or Edge).
  2. Go to Privacy and Security.
  3. Select Site Settings.
  4. Scroll down to Permissions.
  5. Click on Additional Permissions.
  6. Scroll to the last option, Local Network Access.
  7. Under Customized Behaviors, add the following domain:
  8. intel.com
  9. Once the domain is added, click the three dots next to it and select Allow.

Will do. But with Firefox the install is going nowhere. Exactly in the same position as the screenshot most of an hour ago.

After closing Firefox, I found a PROSet installation pop up, which then led to installation of an update, or the update, I'm not sure. In any case, I've never seen that before, but in the Sig Tray, DSA shows as up to date. Screwy.

What's also screwy is that if I click on the link in the notification emails for this thread and then enter my email address, it wants me to sign up for a new account. But if I open the email in a browser from the text/html version, it allows me to sign in (I use the text-based email program Sylpheed).

I made the changes you suggested, but I'm not entirely sure because I can't tell how the Block/Allow pop up affects this. I always click Block on those pop ups.

 

Opera: I found that intel.com was entered in Not Allowed in Customized Settings. Not sure why. I removed it. The update site ran on and on until I clicked on Allow in popup. It now has https://www.intel.com:443. "Intel.com" seems unnecessary.

Edge: Clicked Allow in pop up and it loaded. Not sure if I waited long enough to be sure it wouldn't otherwise.

Chrome: I clicked Block and it didn't load, even with the changes in Customized Settings (there is nothing entered for Not Allowed there).
