Intel Drivers Requiring Additional Installation

Hi Community,

Have a issue with numerous drivers that state they 'requiring additional installation'.

I believe the situation may have happened after the latest Intel Driver & Support Assistant tool updated on 2024-09-13.

Being pretty tech savvy, reviewed numerous Microsoft & Intel support forums looking for solutions since I inadvertantly stumbled across these warning, trying to solve why my processor fan speed has intermittently decided to go into warp speed 🙂 🙂

I have completed all the recommended OS troubleshooting steps many times. The laptop system is up to date as of this post, no virus/malware detected, temporary files and cache cleared, memory diagnosis tool ran no issues, bios reinstalled.

Last week I removed and reinstalled the latest Intel driver per Intel site; gfx_win_101.2130. Still no resolution.

Yesterday I was about to re-install the last offical chipset update from the HP site, which would be a down step back to HP Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver - Kabylake- Aug 2022 and then saw the chat option from the Intel site, after chatting with & email conversations with a couple of reps, there is no interactive technical support for Intel® HD Graphics 610 as it has been discontinued, I was told to post this info here.

Greatly appreciate any help!

Oh bother! I figured it out (a real DOH!-I'm-an-idiot moment). When you first start the from-scratch installation of the (for example) Wireless driver, the first entry in the Event Log is going to be a Device Install Requested event - and, the information field is going to indicate that it requires further installation. At that point in time, of course it requires further installation; it is just barely starting the installation process. Bottom line, seeing that warning is not an error and does not mean anything if the install subsequently succeeded. The confusion-causing problem is that later on, when open the device properties in Device Manager, the Events tab is going to show the first event in the log, not the last.

Ok, that out of the way, what problems are you having otherwise?

Hey Scott, sorry my reply came across confusing, (wish we could live chat or talk directly). I am not trying to install any version of Windows, trust me I am NOT doing something else and not mentioning, I did exactly what you asked me to complete in the order you replied.

Summary:

  • You are NOT running the latest BIOS for your laptop. Version F.75-A is available on the HP site.

- Completed ( rebooted, checked for Windows updates )

  • You haven't installed the Intel Bluetooth driver. If you are using Bluetooth, you should install this as the generic Bluetooth drivers from Microsoft don't work very well with Intel adapters.

- Not able to complete system says already have best Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) installed

  • You have the latest (Build 19045) updates for Windows 10 installed. Despite this, the (Microsoft-supplied) processor drivers (including IntelPPM.sys), the Storage driver and the Camera driver are all showing as being from build 19041?

- Have no idea what to do here? Every day I check for the normal Windows Updates in Settings - Update & Security, windows updates and says 'You Are Up To Date'

  • Your Realtek Audio drivers are out of date. You have v6.0.1.8261 from 2017. The latest on the HP site is v6.0.8940.1 from 2020.

- Completed

So, did you ever install the Intel Chipset Device Software package (HP calls this the "Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver - Braswell" (and poorly describes what it does); the latest version is 10.1.17861.810)? If not (or you used an older version - oh heck, do this anyway), here's what I want you to do:

  1. Download the executable from the HP site (here's link to downloads page: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/drivers/hp-pavilion-15-br000-x360-convertible-pc/15551167; open the Driver-Chipset section and download the version detailed above). Do not execute the downloaded file.
  2. Create a temporary folder using Windows File Manager. Keep the File Manager window open.
  3. Open the executable using an UNZIP tool (If you don't have one, I use 7-Zip, which is free and you can download from here: 7-zip.org).
  4. Select all files and folders and drag them from the UNZIP window and into the temporary folder window you kept open in Step 2.
  5. Open a Command Window and use the CD (CHDIR) command to change the current directory (folder) to the temporary folder you created.
  6. Execute command ".\SetupChipset.exe -overall".
  7. Reboot when this command is done.
  8. You can delete the temporary folder and the downloaded executable.

- Completed in that order and assumed because you advised "oh heck, do this anyway, here's what I want you to do" even though I got that "downgrade" message that is what you wanted me to literally do...  (smiles)

I believe I intially mentioned that I don't normally seek to manually search for drivers, unless I see there is a driver conflict or have a specific issue. I normally just let Windows Update, Intel Driver Support Assistant that automatically scans my system and alerts that new Windows or Intel updates are availble and install them.

Respectfully

...Andre

OMG.... well talk about a DUH 'I'm-an-idiot-moment' for me also... wonder if there's a Big Bang Theory skit it this somewhere?!! ‌‌😁 I'll run the HP & Intel Support apps to update back to what was. I can't believe in all my prior trouble-shooting steps and online searches for 'driver requires further installation' that nothing about this came up???

My intial issue was that that my fan speed started to go into warp speed all of a sudden out of the norm, which seemed to have occured after the last Intel graphics driver update. Watching YouTube tutorials, playing videos all of a sudden the fan speed spikes intermittently to the MAX and will run for like 5 - 10 mins before decreasing or I have to close the lid and put the laptop into sleep mode. Task manager only shows the GPU spiking for 'Desktop Windows Manager and Client Sever Runtime Process'.  When I searched online to research this did not appear to be the cause and when doing anything that does not require graphics usages the fan speed is normal. Some of the online info stated that the problem is most likely with the graphics driver, since no virus/malware have been detected. Spoke to Intel support they wouldn't assist and they directed my here...

If I was to hazard a guess, I would say that you need to replace the TIM (Thermal Interface Material, a.k.a. heatsink paste). With the age of this system, the TIM may have started to dry out. Replacing it in a laptop is a complicated process, however.

Oh well that makes sense... actually I know how to do this... my pops was an electrical engineer taught me lots and have all of his tools still... if I can get the blue-prints I may attempt...

Massive Thanks for ALL your assistance with this Scott.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and yours mate.

Keep Well & Healthy

Cheers André
