Hi,
I have recently upgraded from Ubuntu 22 to Ubuntu 24. After reinstalling drivers following this page my Intel graphics processor is not functional. I tried both using the packages from ppa:kobuk-team/intel-graphics and from https://repositories.intel.com/gpu/ubuntu . clinfo returns 0 platforms.
Below is information about the graphics processor and my OS/kernel version:
lspci -nn | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation CoffeeLake-S GT2 [UHD Graphics 630] [8086:3e98] (rev 02)
uname -srvpi
Linux 6.14.0-28-generic #28~24.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Jul 25 10:47:01 UTC 2 x86_64 x86_64
I see from the table on this page that my GPU is listed under : Driver support for the following devices remains available but is not under active development.
Does that mean kernel 6.14 is no longer compatible with drivers for that GPU? Which kernel versions support it? Where is that listed?

Hi Archie,
- What is the exact graphics card you're using?
As from my original post :
Intel Corporation CoffeeLake-S GT2 [UHD Graphics 630] [8086:3e98] (rev 02)
- What are the troubleshooting steps that you tried so far?
As from my original post : Installing drivers from this page (https://dgpu-docs.intel.com/driver/client/overview.html#ubuntu-22.04) both using the Ubuntu 24 repository (https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/kobuk-team/intel-graphics/ubuntu/) and then from the Ubuntu 22 repository (https://repositories.intel.com)
- Have you tried reinstalling the Intel Graphics Card firmware
Yes
Can you read my original post again? I think I provided enough information. I would like to know if the drivers for my GPU are still compatible with the newest kernel (6.14). If not, it means I have to downgrade my kernel. If yes, it means I have some other problems. Thank you.

Hi fpegeot,
Regarding the kernel version listed at https://dgpu-docs.intel.com/devices/hardware-table.html - you don't need to downgrade your kernel. The listing simply indicates that your Intel UHD 630 graphics card has been supported since kernel version 5.10, so any kernel version 5.10 or newer will work with your hardware.
I should also inform you about an important update regarding your graphics hardware. As of July 27th, 2022, Intel transitioned 6th through 10th generation Intel processor graphics (which includes your UHD 630) to a legacy support model. This means Intel now provides software support primarily for critical fixes and security vulnerabilities, with updates moving to a quarterly release schedule or as needed. You can find more details about this change here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000091662/graphics.html
However, this doesn't mean you're without support! Intel actively works with upstream Linux projects to ensure the best possible experience through the software and drivers that come with your Linux distribution. For optimal Intel graphics support on Linux, I recommend using the kernel, drivers, and packages provided by your operating system vendor rather than trying to install separate Intel drivers.
To help troubleshoot your current issue, could you please check:
- Does your user account have permission to access /dev/dri/renderD*?
- Are you running the command clinfo | grep "Device Name" with sudo privileges?
These details will help me better understand what might be causing the problem you're experiencing.
Best regards,
Archie D.
