Intel HD 4000 doesn't recognize RAM in mid 2012 Macbook Pro

Hello,

My shiny new Macbook Pro has already had a logicboard (Mac-ish for motherboard) replaced due to this.

Games (tested Battlefield Bad Company 2 and GTA IV) crash within a few minutes with the screen freezing and showing random colors as the sound starts stuttering and the only solution is to do a hard restart.

GTA IV tells me that it only recognizes 60 MB VRAM so I guess that the problem is with the graphic card not being able to use the computers onbard RAM (8 GB Corsair Vengeance). The RAM doesn't fail any tests and the computer works like a charm in OSX for days on end, even with heavy Lightroom/Photoshop use.

Drivers are updated!

Hi!

The Intel graphics controller should automatically adjust the amount of memory that is going to be used. If other applications like Photoshop work fine in the same system I thing the problem could be a compatibility issue.

I recommend getting in contact with the developer of the games to check if they have tested those games in a system with the same graphics controller and same Operating System.

Thanks!!

Hi there I think I have the same problem except on call of duty 4.

I also have the Mac book air 13 inch 2012 edition and after about 5-15 minutes of playing the laptop will completely crash and make a horrible noise, The only way to stop this is to hold the power off button

I have 150+ frames on call of duty so I don't understand why this is happening.

Any help will be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

If you are using steam then go to the games properties, and go to set launch options, then type "-availablevidmem 4.500". Also intel provides a utility that ensures all drivers are up to date, if you are using bootcamp the ones apple provides are old. This will allow the game to use more VRAM, if you purchased from steam and the product key isn't working I would suggest this http://forums.xbox.com/gfw/technical_support/connection_networking/f/265/t/322898.aspx [Solution] GTA 4 - Invalid CD Key from Steam [08-30-2012] - Connection / Networking - Connection / Networking - Xbox.com Forums - Xbox.comhttp://forums.xbox.com/gfw/technical_support/connection_networking/f/265/t/322898.aspx http://forums.xbox.com/gfw/technical_support/connection_networking/f/265/t/322898.aspx

If you have any questions let me know, I recently got the game running on my 2012 macbook pro 13in i5 with 8gb of ram. I would suggest starting with the lowest settings and adjusting them as you see fit to get the gameplay you desire. There are lots of bug in GTA IV, so it may be frustrating
