Intel HD 530 - Dell U3415W - HDMI & Display Port Problems

Two or three days ago I have purchased Dell U3415W, 34 inch curved monitor.

I have also opened this issue on official Dell forum : http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/t/19974168 U3415W - Not recognized - Monitors Forum - Peripherals - Dell Community and they have sent me here since this is clearly Intel Graphics problem.

My HDMI recognizes the screen but the screen itself simply goes into power save mode, nothing is shown. Display Port is not even recognized or to say, monitor is not even shown anywhere under my Display properties.

I used a Dell diagnostic tool (please take a look at the link provided above) and in diagnostics its very clear that the issue is related to the GPU.

Model of my laptop is : Acer Aspire VN7-792G, latest laptop from Acer from Aspire series, it has two GPU's (Intel 530) and NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 960M.

Since I'm desperate considering I payed 1100 euros for this screen and it doesn't work with this GPU, I have also ordered https://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video/thunderbolt-3-to-dual-displayport~TB32DP2 Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter - 4k, 60 Hz | Video Converters | StarTech.com so I try with Thunderbolt 3 to Display Port, praying to all the forces for it to work.

Hi,

Have you checked Nvidia control panel also ?

When you connect an external monitor on a laptop you have to set up what to show on it, or you have a keyboard key or a combination to activate the external monitor.

Your laptop is build by Acer not Intel, and I think you should first contact Acer because igpu is not directly connected to the hdmi port, and I think Acer tech can help you how to activate or set up the external monitor.

I disagree with that statement, this error has nothing to do with Acer, it's completely related to Intel 530 graphics which is clearly causing the problem and various other sources are saying this as well, also the links I provided.

What driver version you have installed ? The latest driver is here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25957/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=80939 Download Intel® Beta Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 and Windows 7*/8.1* [15.40]

I have also i7 6700K with the driver I linked and I have connected my monitor on HDMI and it is working fine.

Yes, I do have the latest beta version installed .4444 even thought I tried all other versions just in case.

For that monitor to work on HDMI you need a PC/Laptop with HDMI version 2.0. Intel igpu works only on HDMI 1.4. For HDMI 2.0 you need an Intel Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt controller. If your laptop have that controller it should work.

I think you need a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter.

I don't know why your laptop is connecting on HDMI on Intel graphics. Normally it should connect on nvidia, and then you should configure in nvidia control panel what you want to be displayed on external panel.

I have already ordered Thunderbolt 3 to DP as stated in my original post but that's just bypassing the actual problem. It's very disappointing that latest technology from Intel doesn't support HDMI 2.0 nor DP. Very sad.

All I can tell you is that is not a DDC/CI communication problem because my monitor is detected and it tells the model name of the monitor ...

You need to install thunderbolt driver also, which I saw on Acer support page.

Hi,

I will not say that is an Intel fault but this graphics has been tested and used with no problems at all, if your laptop monitor works fine then the graphics is ok. At this point what I can suggest is the following and I apologize if you already try this.

The first and easiest thing to try is to let the units reset and try handshaking again by turning them off, unplugging them from the power, and powering them up again in order.

Disconnect any components in the HDMI/DisplayPort signal path, then plug one at a time if the TV then works, you will know that one of the disconnected components or HDMI/DisplayPort cables must be at fault. You can start reconnecting cables and components one at a time. When the TV quits working, you will know that the last thing you added was the problem.

Move the HDMI/DisplayPort cable to another HDMI/DisplayPort input on the TV. Use the TV remote to select the new input. If the TV now works, this proves the original HDMI/DisplayPort input could be bad.

If that does not work I suggest uninstalling both drivers the Intel driver and the Nvidia driver and restart your system, please see http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005598.html Uninstalling the Intel® Graphics Driver and Intel® Display HDMI/Audio Driver

You will need to install the Intel driver manually, please see http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html How to Manually Install an Intel® Graphics Driver in Windows® 10 & Windows 8* or Windows 8.1*

Update the BIOS; please download the latest BIOS version from your system manufacturer website and follow their instructions.

Best regards,

Ivan

The way I know that HDMI cable is not a problem is the fact that I used that same cable to connect to my desktop PC and it connected and started instantly, I also have two brand new HDMI cables and they work perfectly fine. In terms of DP (from monitor) to HDMI (laptop), that thing is not even recognized nor shown anywhere under my display settings even though on the official page of my laptop it clearly states that my laptop supports DP.

I also need to add that when I connect my laptop and screen via HDMI cable, screen is shown under my display settings with its max resolution etc. but simply its in sleep mode and nothing happens.

I do not believe this has anything to do with hardware, it is driver aka software related. I have ordered 3 thunderbolt 3 (type c to DP) adapters and this will surely work but its still very depressing that I have a brand new laptop of latest generation and one of the most expensive screens on the market and that it doesn't work, it's just....

You can clearly see the DCC error in my original post and notice that there is some problem with communication with the screen.

The monitor has plenty of preset resolutions, as you can see in the manual: http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_display_projector/esuprt_display/dell-u3415w-monitor_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_display_projector/esuprt_display/dell-u3415w-monitor_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf (page 12-13), also includes higher resolutions such as 3440x1440@60hz (this one requiring HDMI 2.0)

I think we need to clarify something with here:
  1. Connect the monitor via HDMI or DP.
  2. Open Intel Graphics Control Panel.
  3. Check on Multiple Displays. Is the monitor detected here?
  4. If yes, check which resolutions are available. Select Extended and check if lower resolutions work (e.g. 1920x1080@60p).
  5. If not, verify if another monitor can work fine on the same port with the same cable.

Please let me know.

Ivan

I'm not sure if you are serious with such answers but do you really believe after all the diagnostic reports etc. that I didn't do the most basic stuff such is Graphics control panel etc ? Did you even read my original post ?

You're original post was read and understood very well, I'm just trying to isolate the issue because this is not a problem we have experience with this driver and this driver has been tested plenty of times with no such problem.

Please be aware that Intel provides generic versions of drivers for general purposes. Your computer manufacturer may have altered the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to your driver.

Did you install an http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005952.html INF file for your monitor? I recommend contacting your monitor manufacturer in order to see if this driver is available for your monitor.

I suggest pushing your respective OEM to test each issue and particular hardware combination. Please bear in mind that once the systems are integrated with our Graphics Controllers, it falls back to the OEMs to work on issues like this one.
