Intel HD Graphics 620 driver problem with Hyper-V enabled

Hello,

I am having problems with the Lenovo ThinkPad x270 with Intel HD Graphics 620 and a 1920x1080 IPS non-touch display. I posted the following over at the Lenovo forums thinking I had defective units:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Jumping-and-flickering-display-on-ThinkPad-X270/td-p/3663816 Jumping and flickering display on ThinkPad X270 - Lenovo Community

That post has links to videos I took of the displays exhibiting the problem.

After some additional diagnostics, I discovered that the problem is only apparent with Hyper-V enabled. The problem occurs with both the driver version supplied directly by Lenovo, 21.20.16.4550, and the version of the driver that gets installed when doing "Update driver" from the Windows device manager, 21.20.16.4590.

For the time being, I have disabled Hyper-V but I really do need to have it. Please let me know what other information I can provide that might help resolve this issue.

Thank you...

Hello dougherty477,

I understand screen flickers when Hyper-V is enabled.

Let me apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing to you.

In order to help you better I would like to gather more information about the configuration you have in the computer. Please attach to this thread the .txt file the Intel® System Support Utility will generate https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

To attach a file, you must click "Use Advanced Editor" on the upper right hand corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear on the bottom right hand corner of the response box.

Regards,

Fred

I don't believe this to be Lenovo only.

HP Spectre laptops are having the exact same issue.

See https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/x360-spectre-15-bl012dx-windows-10-display-flickers-when-I/td-p/6067091/page/2 x360 spectre 15-bl012dx windows 10. display flickers when I ... - Page 2 - HP Support Forum - 6067091

There is a link to a Youtube video of the issue.

The HP community has isolated the issue it to enabling VT in BIOS.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Fred,

I have a 2017 Spectre X360 15", not a Thinkpad X270, however this laptop was having the same problem. Really bad flickering when VT-d was enabled in the BIOS. Here's a thread on the HP support forums about it: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/x360-spectre-15-bl012dx-windows-10-display-flickers-when-I/td-p/6067091 x360 spectre 15-bl012dx windows 10. display flickers when I ... - HP Support Forum - 6067091

I'm happy to report that the latest driver update from Intel appears to have fixed this issue. I installed version 15.45.19.4678, which is one version later than the one you posted. With this version, I haven't seen any flickering for a couple of hours now.

Unfortunately, HP's version of this driver is a lot older than this. I had to manually force the install of this driver by giving Device Manager the .inf file.

Hopefully the driver update fixes the OP's issue with the Thinkpad as well. I saw reports of Dell XPS users also had the same problem. You guys should get on the OEM's cases to push out drivers faster, or just let you push the drivers out via Windows Update.

Thanks for the help!
