Intel HD graphics driver brings fuzzy screen

Hi, I have a desktop with an i3 2100@3.1GHz(Sandy Bridge) installed on a MSI H61M-P31/W8 running a Windows 7 SP1.

So far so good..

My graphic driver are still set to Standard VGA, so I ran the Intel Driver Utility to found the proper Intel HD Graphic driver. And so did it.

I installed it but after reboot my screen goes totally fuzzy and colorful.. a bit like this: http://i.imgur.com/7vK9VeZ.jpg link

I can see the windows splash logo screen but not the login page.

Any ideas why this happens? And how I could fix it?

Thanks a lot

Ben

Hello BenRaMan,

If you install the graphics driver from your system manufacturer, do you get the same problem?

Try reinstalling the driver, you can download it here:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24971/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-64-bit?product=81502 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24971/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-64-bit?product=81502

Uninstall the old driver first; please see http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005598.html?wapkw=intel+display+audio Uninstalling the Intel® Graphics Driver

Once the driver is uninstalled, go ahead and install it manually, please see http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005474.html How to Manually Install a Graphics Driver in Windows 7*

Try as well to install all drivers for your system from your system manufacturer and have the latest BIOS version installed.

Regards,

Ivan

Hi,

No still the same issue. Sorry for not getting back here earlier. I tried Ivan's suggestions to no success. i had already tried as a matter of fact.

I really don't get what the problem could be. A hardware malfunction maybe?

Thanks for helping though, I appreciated that. I'm about to give up since I can't find anything to try on and just leave the standard VGA on.. I'll be a bit disappointed though I have to admit..

Anybody thinks of something I could try?

Thanks.

Ben

Does this happen with your system manufacturer driver? You can download it here:

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H61M-P31-G3.html# down-driver&Win7 64

Try accessing the Intel® HD Graphics Control Panel:
  • In desktop mode, right-click on the Desktop, and select Graphics Properties, once the Intel® HD Graphics Control Panel opens, click on display and then lower down the refresh rate.
  • If lowering down the refresh rate does not work, keep the Intel® HD Graphics Control Panel open and set the graphics to default settings by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F8 on your keyboard.
  • Update your system BIOS

If the issue persists, try to do a http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/ system restore. This way we can isolate software issue, if nothing works, reinstall the operating system.

I hope this can help.

Hi Ivan,

Yes I tried also to get the driver from the MSI website, same result.

I checked the BIOS, and I have the last version available on the same website (AMI v3.6 29/09/2013). Should I try a previous version or that is not recommended?

I tried to access the Intel graphic properties but since I can't go past the windows loading view, I can't see it. And of course when booting in safe mode, the graphic drivers aren't loaded so...

I've just tried to boot in low resolution, and saw the logging screen for a couple of second before the computer freezes and the screen went totally fuzzy.. new symptom.. could that help?

I'm starting to think that it's a hardware issue but I can't figure it out.. I don't have much knowledge on that part.. I tried to install a graphic card which works but makes the computer freezes at random times.. sometimes even seconds after login into windows but it works for no more than 20min. I have a new PSU (TR2 S-650W) so it shouldn't be a power lacking issue.

Dayum really don't know what to do..

Thanks again for the suggestions..

Regards,

Ben

I do not recommend rolling back to a previous BIOS version.

Did you try a system restore?

What is your TV/Monitor model and what is the resolution that you have set up?

Are you using HDMI connection or how do you have the monitor connected to your machine?

Check on your monitor manufacturer's website and see if there is an INF file driver for your monitor, this can help to solve resolution issue or issues like the one you have.

Please fill out the information at the following link so I can further assist you.

If you can access Windows, please try the steps at the following link:

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/laptop/how-fix-laptop-with-blurry-screen-3434640/ http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/laptop/how-fix-laptop-with-blurry-screen-3434640/

If the problem persists, try the following:

Did you try reinstalling the operating system, this driver has been on the market for a long time and we never got reports about issues like this, I suggest you to try different VGA cable or DVI cable if it is possible, try reinstalling different operating system image, if it is possible or reinstall the one you have to see if the problem persists.

If the issue persists after you reinstalling the operating system, most likely it is a hardware issue, in this case, I suggest you to try different ram or to try one ram at a time on the DIMM closest to the processor, if the problem persists try on different DIMM and so on. You can try your ram in another system if it is possible.

If the issue persists, we will need to keep trying different components, for example different HDD if you have another one available or to try the one you have in another system.

If you are using a video card, remove the video card and use the onboard video, in addition, I suggest you to contact your motherboard manufacturer for more troubleshooting.

I hope this can help.

Best wishes,

Ivan
