Hello zLOBster,
Thank you for joining this Intel Community.
Installing the latest graphics driver provided by the system manufacturer, Lenovo*, is the recommended step in order to avoid potential installation incompatibilities. Keep in mind that we supply generic versions of graphics drivers for general purposes. Computer manufacturers can change the features, incorporate customizations, or make other changes to the graphics driver software or software packaging.
In case you would like to continue using the generic version of the graphics driver, please provide the following information:
1. How are you connecting the laptop to the external monitor? Are you using any adapter? ie: Cables&brand, cable type [vga, hdmi, DP, etc], dock, dongles/adapters, etc.
2. Have you tried using other cables?
3. Please run the Intel® System Support Utility and attach the report to this thread.
1.Download the Intel® System Support Utility and save the application to your system.
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows-?product=91600
2.Open the application and click Scan to see system and device information. The Intel® System Support Utility defaults to the Summary View on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says summary to change to Detailed View.
3.To save your scan, click Next and click Save. You can save the file to any accessible location on your computer.

Hello zLOBster,
Thank you for your reply.
According to the Lenovo's support website, there is a newer graphics driver version for your system. Have you tried installing this version?
Lenovo E470 https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-edge-laptops/thinkpad-e470/downloads Drivers and Software.
Also, you can check the following information:
1. Does the Control Panel for Intel® Graphics detect the external display if you install the latest graphics driver recommended?
You can also check this on Display settings > Advanced display settings.
2. Check if there is a monitor driver that you can install.

Hello zLOBster,
In order to perform a clean install of the graphics driver, we recommend the following steps:
1.Disconnect your unit from the internet.
2.Uninstall both the Intel Graphics driver and the Intel Display audio driver. To do this, please follow the steps described on the support link below under these sections:
-Uninstalling the Intel Graphics Driver via the Device Manager Method
-Uninstalling the Intel® Display Audio Driver or the Intel® HDMI Audio Driver via the Device Manager Method.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005598/graphics-drivers.html
3.Restart your computer. Go to the device manager and check if Windows installed another version of the graphics driver. If it does, please remove it and restart your computer one more time. Repeat the process until you get the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
4.Once you do, please proceed with the clean install of the latest graphics driver version. In this case, you can install the graphics driver provided by Lenovo*. If the issues are not resolved, you can try these steps with the generic graphics driver.
Generic graphics driver for https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27988/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10?product=96551 Intel® HD Graphics 620.
5.Once the latest driver has been installed, you may enable the internet connection again.
If the issues persist, you may follow these recommendations.
1. Lenovo recommends performing these steps to configure the display settings in Windows* 10.
https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/uu/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-edge-laptops/thinkpad-e470/solutions/ht004036 Configure Display Settings
2. A chipset driver can also fix this issue. Make sure you contact Lenovo* to know if updating this driver is required.
3. Make sure the latest discrete graphics driver is installed.
If performing a clean install of the Lenovo* driver and Intel driver does not allow the computer to detect an external display, then this could be a compatibility issue. If this is a compatibility issue, then you need to report it to the computer manufacturer so that they can attempt to replicate it and provide a resolution. This could be implemented through a BIOS update, which can only be provided by Lenovo*.
