(Intel Iris XE) - Fallout New Vegas terminal texturing bug

Hello, Intel forms. I'd like to report a small issue with Fallout New Vegas that has only recently begun happening to me. Though I do suppose it's been an issue for a while, I just decided to pick the game up again.

While the core game itself runs completely fine, it appears to have trouble rendering certain interactive full-screen UI elements. The most notable element this affects is the terminal window, but it affects more niche menus such as the character customization screen.

The one common trait between the two of them is that the non-interactable elements seem to turn this whiteish gray color, while the interactive elements turn pitch black. This renders most terminals and character customization completely broken.

Having taken a look at other posts relating to this issue, it doesn't seem to be directly linked to any one specific issue, and it seems to persist across GPU brands as well. The only "concrete" answer that seems to work for people is to update their drivers or install a mod that fixes the issue for some but not for others. Neither seems to do the trick for me in my scenario.

This is a bit perplexing, at least in my case, as having played this game a few months ago, I never had this bug occur to me. The only posts that seem to mention this started spawning about 6~ish months ago, and I suspect this could've been when the issue initially arose. I do find it strange that it appears to transcend between GPU manufacturers, but I hope that the development team can figure out what might be causing this and can update drivers accordingly.

Hello the_evil_sandwich,

Thank you for posting in the community. To further investigate this issue, could you please answer the following questions:

  1. Which gaming platform did you use to download the game (e.g., Steam, Epic Games)?
  2. Could you share your in-game display and graphics settings?
  3. What is the current graphics driver installed on your system?
  4. Have you tried reverting to the driver provided by your laptop's manufacturer?
  5. Have you used Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove the graphics driver?
  6. What is the exact model of your laptop?
  7. Could you provide a video demonstrating how to replicate the issue?
  8. Have you tested different graphics drivers for comparison?

Additionally, to gain a comprehensive understanding of your system, please use the System Support Utility (SSU). This tool will generate a text file compiling all your system information. You can follow the instructions at this link and send the text file here. Help Guide for the Intel® System Support Utility

Hello Dhanniel.

Sorry for the late reply, but I'll try to answer as many questions as possible.

1. I own the Ultimate Edition of New Vegas on Steam specifically.

2. It's a bit hard to send over all of my settings, but for the most part, I play on the full resolution for my device (1900 x 1200), and with most settings set to "low".

3/5. I actually installed today's most recent update (32.0.101.6737), and did a fresh install from within the installer.

4. The latest version of my manufacturer's driver is a few weeks out of date (released on 4/7/25 on Dell's website), so I'm opting to use Intel's own drivers instead.

6. My model of laptop is the Dell Inspiron 16 7620 2-in-1.

7. I don't have a video on hand, but if I had to sum it up, any terminal-related GUI (Character Creator, Terminals, etc) has the white border with black dynamic elements. However, even though not visible, elements of these GUIs (selectable options, buttons, etc) are still interactable by the user, presuming they know where to click within the black void.

This is all I'm able to answer as of now, and I apologize if it isn't sufficient.

Hello the_evil_sandwich,

Thank you for answering some of the questions. I understand that you were unable to provide all the information. I would like to further explore this issue on my end, and to do so, I need to match your in-game display and graphics settings. This will allow me to accurately replicate the issue and determine if it appears on my system as well.

To better understand where the issue occurs, I kindly request a video demonstration showing how to replicate it. Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could share your SSU logs with me. Please follow the link provided above to generate the text file, and then share it here.
