Intel Skull Canyon - Sony TV Info Bar

Contacted Sony, referred me to the forums here. The Info Bar(Shows how TV is connected - HDMI plus Time/Screen Resolution) will continuously drop down, from the top of screen, when moving between full screen view, either YouTube or general Tab changing via web browser.

Sony checked the documentation of the TV and state the Info Banner is being triggered by the Intel graphics driver. There is no setting to turn off the banner within the TV settings menu, unlike some of their other TV's. Connection is via HDMI.

TV is :KDL-32W660E

PC is : Skull Canyon i7 (W10 - Latest Drivers - 1 screen only)

Any suggestions?

Hello JohnMK,

I understand the information bar drops down from the top of the screen.

Let me apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing to you.

In order to help you better I would like to gather more information about the configuration you have in the computer. Please attach to this thread the .txt file the Intel® System Support Utility will generate https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

To attach a file, you must click "Use Advanced Editor" on the upper right hand corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear on the bottom right hand corner of the response box.

If possible provide a screenshot of the information bar you are referring to.

Has it worked fine before?

Are you using HDMI to HDMI cable?

Regards,

Hello JohnMK,

Thanks for the information you sent to me.

I would like you to try installing different version of the graphics driver. Please download it from this link https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26259/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-and-Windows-10-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC6i7KYK?product=89187 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26259/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-and-Windows-10-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC6i7KYK?product=89187

Once the file has been downloaded on the keyboard press WinLogo key + r, then type in devmgmt.msc, double click on Display Adapters -> Intel HD Graphics -> Driver tab -> Uninstall -> Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device -> OK, restart the computer, and then reinstall the driver I provided.

Test the system, and if issue persists please install latest HDMI firmware update from this link https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26061/-HDMI-2-0-Firmware-Update-Tool-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC6i7KYK?product=89187 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26061/-HDMI-2-0-Firmware-Update-Tool-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC6i7KYK?product=89187

If issue persists I would like you to try updating the BIOS of the computer in a specific order. Please install one BIOS version and test the system. If issue persists install newer BIOS version and then test the system one more time. If one of the BIOS versions fixes the problem there is no need for you to install newer BIOS versions.

First BIOS update https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26210/NUCs-BIOS-Update-KYSKLi70-86A- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26210/NUCs-BIOS-Update-KYSKLi70-86A-

Second BIOS update https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26338/NUCs-BIOS-Update-KYSKLi70-86A- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26338/NUCs-BIOS-Update-KYSKLi70-86A-

Third BIOS update https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26698/NUCs-BIOS-Update-KYSKLi70-86A- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26698/NUCs-BIOS-Update-KYSKLi70-86A-

The following link will provide instructions about how to update the BIOS https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/desktop-boards/000005547.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/desktop-boards/000005547.html

Let me know if issue persists or not.

Fred, thanks for the advice. HDMI firmware wouldn't run at all. OUI error each time. OUI error seems to think it's not a HDMI v.2 port for some reason...

Installed the correct Graphics drivers, then all BIOS updates one after the other, info bar still shows.

Hello JohnMK,

I am sorry to hear issue persists after installing the drivers I provided.

Have you tried different HDMI cable? Are you using a HDMI 1.4 cable? If possible try different cable.

If possible try connecting the HDMI cable on different port on the back of the TV.

Let me know if issue persists or not.

Thanks for getting back to me Fred.

Went and purchased a new GTEK HDMI cable v2.0b. This actually made the Skull Canyon a bit snappier to use generally for some reason, and the screen is crisper to look at. However, tried running the HDMI firmware updater, still get the same error message. For some reason it's not seeing the HDMI port or able to read the current firmware revision installed.

With the new cable, the info bar is still showing but no as often, but enough to still be annoying.

Booted into Safe Mode, ran the HDMI updater as an Administrator, came up with an error. MP3 run error. Thanks for the help Fred so far.

NOTE: MP3 error was within the updater itself, not the OS.

Couldn't initiate the Info Bar in Safe Mode with Networking, PC wouldn't connect to the net anyway. And the error for the firmware updater was: OPEN MP3 ERROR!

Hello JohnMK,

I am sorry to hear you are still having issues with your computer.

Another troubleshooting step we can try is completely removing the graphics driver, and testing the system with the Microsoft* Basic Display driver. You may have to uninstall the graphics driver a couple of times before you can get the Microsoft* Basic Display driver. Please disconnect the computer momentarily from the Internet which is to make sure the operating system will not reinstall the driver automatically.

In order for you to uninstall the graphics driver on the keyboard press WinLogo key + r, then type in devmgmt.msc, double click on Display Adapters -> Intel HD Graphics -> Driver tab -> Uninstall -> Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device -> OK, and then restart the computer. Go back to Device Manager and check if the Microsoft* Basic Display driver shows up under Display Adapters category. If it is not there then repeat the uninstall process until the Microsoft* Basic Display driver shows up.

Once you get the Microsoft* Basic Display driver in Device Manager connect the computer to the Internet and test the Sony* info bar.

After testing you can reinstall our graphics driver from this link https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26259/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-and-Windows-10-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC6i7KYK?product=89187 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26259/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-and-Windows-10-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC6i7KYK?product=89187
