I received an e-mail from Asus Iberia telling me that neither Intel nor Microsoft will have a solution for the problem. We must use W10 with the basic microsoft graphics (1024x768...) or stick with W7.

Hello Paolo51,

The processor in you laptop is an Intel® Atom™ Processor Z520, the launch date was Q2' 2008, the OS (Operating System) supported is Windows 7. This processor is not compatible with Windows 10, Intel® will not provide drivers for this OS. Please check link below under Intel® Atom™ Processor Z500 Series with Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 500.

Hi Paolo,

Hi, I saw your post on the Intel forum regarding trouble updating your Win 7 to Win 10 with a Graphics Media Accelerator 500 incompatibility problem through the self-update. I had the same issue with my Dell Mini 1010 netbook - it gave me the GMA 500 incompatibility error and would not auto load. Go to this site:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

According to your system info picture you have the 32 bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium so download the 32 bit installer, say you want to update, and you will be able to download the update to use Win 10 (took a couple / few hours to install on my low powered 1.0Ghz Dual Core Atom Z520). I am using Win 10 right now with the same Graphics Media Accelerator 500 with no problems. I think the reason intel mentioned 2008 is that it was a transition time from Vista to 7 so they guessed the weaker Atom processor couldn't handle the Win 10 OS but according to the link ricardog_intel send you the Z520 IS compatible, Note the 32 bit version uses less RAM than the 64 bit (My laptop came with the Windows 7 32 bit Starter Edition and it Upgraded to Windows 10 Home) and works fine. It uses about 750 MB of my 2GB / 2000MB of RAM to run the Win 10 OS so you might want to consider yours might freeze when you go online if you only have 1GB of RAM. One version of the Dell Mini, Model 1011 I think, has integrated the RAM on the motherboard so there is no way to upgrade to 2GB, but mine actually had a removable all-in-one processor / memory card combo. Long story short: If you have 2GB of RAM you should be good to go!

Now there's always the chance it will not work on your ASUS so you could make a backup before you install the Windows 10 by using a spare 4GB or higher jump drive / flash drive / thumb drive ./ external DVD burner to create a bootable disk. You only get one chance to backup your Win 7 OS so store the backup in a safe place otherwise you have to buy a restore disk!

Again, follow the link above and you can install Windows 10!

Good luck!

John
