Lenovo v470 - Intel Graphics Drivers Issue

I'm having display issues with my v470 laptop when I install Intel Graphics drivers. After few mins of using the laptop, the display gets distorted and locks up the laptop. I have to power off the laptop every time. I tried installing the Intel Onbroad Graphics drivers that's available from Lenovo's website. I also try install the latest Intel HD Graphics 3000 drivers from Intel website.

I ran memtest successfully without any errors.

The odd part is whenever I uninstall the Intel Graphics drivers the issue goes away.

This is how the display looks - http://s17.postimg.org/a5pxr5uvj/IMG_0056.jpg http://s17.postimg.org/a5pxr5uvj/IMG_0056.jpg

Specs:

i5 2410M

8 gigs RAM

Win 7 Ultimate x64

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello, kru20o1:

Could you please let us know the Intel® HD Graphics driver version you are running? Please go to Device Manger> Display adapters> Intel(R) HD Graphics right click on Properties and then go to Driver, you will be able to see the version installed.

Hi Amy,

I currently have no Intel drivers installed on my Lenovo V470 laptop.

However, below are the Intel driver versions I have installed and had the same display issue with all of them.

From Lenovo's website

  • Intel Onboard Graphics Driver ver. 8.15.10.2342

From Intel's website

  • Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8-64-bit Version: 15.28.24.64.4229 (Latest)
  • Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8-64-bit Version: 15.28.23.64.4101 (Previously Released)

It started happening 2 weeks ago when I had to wipe the hard drive (including OneKey recovery partition) and installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I manually installed all the drivers from Lenovo's website for the V470 laptop. I also upgraded the RAM from 4 gigs to 8 gigs.

Is there any change you can test your computer with the old memory stick, the 4 GB RAM?

I would recommend to perform a Low-Level format, see here for more information http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/203931en How Do I Low-Level Format a SATA or ATA (IDE) Hard Drive?

Yes, I was able to find and test the old 4 GB RAM Samsung memory stick on the laptop. I installed the latest Intel Graphics drivers and so far I haven't had any issues with the display. I also ran GPUTest 0.7.0 benchmark and stress test without getting the display issue. 😃

It may have been bad or incompatible 8 GB memory stick all this time -- good catch!

Thank you for all your help!
