I use an HTPC with CetonCorp card for television. I have used the same TV for 7 years. I built a new PC with the Asrock H77 with Intel 4000 graphics / i3 3225. Once I started using the new motherboard, I discovered that if I start Windows Media Center, when I go to watch Live TV, I get a "Display driver error--The video playback device does not support playback of protected content". If I shrink the media window, live TV starts up and remains that way indefinitely. It works fine when I go back to full screen. If I watch recorded TV, and try to go back to Live TV, I get the same error and need to shrink the screen again to get it to work. I switched the TV out for a new 23" HDMi monitor, and got the exact same error. I am going straight out from PC to TV via HDMI. All the drivers are up to date from Asrock, and even the beta drivers from Intel that I found on this site. Any ideas?
Thanks

I have a similar setup and get the issue occasionally. I thought it had something to do with having multiple displays enabled.
I don't want multiple displays enabled. I have had htpcs in the past and even though I have had an hdmi from the pc to an av receiver and then out to a projector, I don't recall it detecting both the receiver and projector and not allowing me to disable one.
But this probably isn't the case with you, so not sure what the cause of the issue is.

I know you said you had it directly connected to a tv, but are you sure there aren't multiple displays detected in graphics properties? Also look at your audio control panel, and list what devices it has, is it using an hdmi audio driver or another device? Right click and make it show any disabled devices as well.

Single display detected
Audio control has Realtek 2 speaker, Realtek digital(default), and Intel Audio Display(the HDMI). It doesn't matter which audio is used as default, or which is disabled, I still get the same error.

Hi Fatawan,
You stated before that you've been using the same TV for 7 years - however, is this your first time trying to use that TV on your computer to watch TV on it?
Also, both your TV and your monitor are having the same issue, are you using the same cable for both? You might have an older HDMI cable, (pre- v1.4) - try using a newer cable. (for more info on the HDMI versions; look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI# Version_1.0_to_1.2 HDMI - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Thanks,
-Nic

Hi Nic
The TV has been used solely as an HTPC monitor for 7 years.
I'll try a different cable and let you know(though same cable has worked fine via Nvidia and AMD cards to same TV in previous iterations).
Thanks

Can you post a copy of your dxdiag for me please? (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information). Just copy/paste it here and I'll take a look at it.

Run the BIOS update listed on ASrock's* website for version 1.30. Here's the link; http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=H77M&o=All http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=H77M&o=All
Looks like the current BIOS version you have is 1.10, and there was a mention of some vbios compatibility updates that might help with your issue. Let me know how it goes.

No change after BIOS update to 1.3. Also, tried doing the MonInfo thing and creating the .INF file for my TV--also no change after that one.

Go ahead and try using the ASRock provided VGA driver (.2857) here; ftp://174.142.97.10/drivers/Intel/VGA/VGA_Win8-64_Win7-64(v15.28.6.64.2857).zip ftp://174.142.97.10/drivers/Intel/VGA/VGA_Win8-64_Win7-64(v15.28.6.64.2857).zip
Let me know if this works or not.

A user on the Microsoft* Answers forum seems to have found a fix for the issue, perhaps you can give it a try as well;
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/playready-update-unable-to-complete/c356d609-3707-40de-87d0-71cb1d39afb0 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/playready-update-unable-to-complete/c356d609-3707-40de-87d0-71cb1d39afb0#
I've pasted the steps below:
a. Uninstall PlayReady from the 'Programs and Features' Refer: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Uninstall-or-change-a-program Uninstall or change a program
b. Turn off Windows Media Center. See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Turn-Windows-features-on-or-off Turn Windows features on or off
c. Enable the explorer to show hidden files and folders. Read: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Show-hidden-files Show hidden files.
d. Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\ and delete eHome and PlayReady folders.
e. Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM and delete all files and folders underneath (don't delete the DRM directory itself)
f. Open the registry with elevated privileges. To do so, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt and then point to "Run as administrator". In the command prompt that opens, type regedit.exe.
g. Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft and delete the DRM key.
h. Restart the computer.
i. Reinstall Windows Media Player from "Programs and Features". Refer: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Turn-Windows-features-on-or-off Turn Windows features on or off. This should also regenerate the DRM keys for your machine.
j. Run Windows Media Center setup. See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Getting-started-with-Windows-Media-Center Getting started with Windows Media Center
k. Run the PlayReady install from inside Media Center. See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Set-up-a-TV-signal-in-Windows-Media-Center Set up a TV signal in Windows Media Center
A user in a different post on these forums stated that this is the result of changing your CPU or motherboard, as the DRM sees it as a completely different computer. You might get the same or better results if you wipe/re-install your operating system, and run through all the set ups again.

-Nic
