My HD 4400 graphics display are lagging on Windows 10 on Toshiba Z50

I have a Toshiba Z50 Tecra that uses an HD4400 graphics setup. Since the Windows 10 anniversay update, everything is slow. The slow boot I have improved but the graphics are lagging for example I click to open a window and the outline forms and eventually it pops up. Every subsequent piece of navigation I do, it seems like the display has to catch up. Many sites have identified the video driver as being the issue but nothing new from Toshiba on this. Can anyone help?

Hello OldPaul:

In this case we can try to install the latest version of the graphics driver for the Intel® HD 4400 graphics controller, which is driver 4501:

Also, you can try to install the graphics driver from Toshiba's web site:

To do a BIOS update on the laptop is also a good thing to try, in order to get the information of how to do that, you just need to get in contact with Toshiba.

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update is rampant with bugs. One (or more) of these bugs cause its upgrade tool to delete essential files from some of the driver packages so we we recommend to re-install all the drivers packages and in order to get all the drivers for your laptop, you can use the link above or get in contact with Toshiba directly:

Toshiba's phone number: +1 800-457-7777

Toshiba's support site: http://support.toshiba.com/ http://support.toshiba.com/

Any questions, please let me know.

Hi Alberto,

Yes, yes, and yes. The AU did all of these things and more. I have been fighting to get things back to normal for weeks. It even deleted program entries. I lost Edge (well no great loss), and my Start 10 plus Telegram. Fixed all of that. I have the latest BIOS for my machine which is 3.70, so I see that Toshiba has just released un update for system settings which I will also install and that should clear up more of the bugs. That will only leave me with the incredibly slow startup and reboot sequences to fix.

Interestingly, I found that the lagging was primarily due to updates that Microsoft delivered on Tuesday night but which did not install correctly. I got the error message and re-did that and it said my machine was up to date. It did not inform me that a reboot was required for these updates to take effect. So the severe lagging I had yesterday was due to these stuck updates. Once I had eliminated everything else I was in settings and found a scheduled reboot. No notification, but it was there. So I forced it and bang, no more lagging.

Bottom line is the machine is performing very well now except the startup which went from about 30 seconds to 10 minutes. I'm sure they will fix that eventually as well. Thank you for the help.
