[New Driver][Windows 8.1/10] Nvidia + Intel

Hello. Currently i have setup Nvidia gtx760 with a intel HD4600 from my i7 both enabled. I use my nvidia for gameing and just have the intel enabled for quicksync. Currently with the drivers windows 8.1 comes with for intel HD 4600 this setup works fine. However when ever i try to update the driver for it it creates a new display for the HD4600 and set it as the primary causeing the computer to become unusable as all my program windows and what not show up on this new primary display which doesnt even have a monitor attached (no display connected to the motherboard). Since i only use the intel for quicksync updateing driver isnt too important however only the newer drivers are avalable in windows 10 makeing this setup impossible there. I could go out and buy a hdmi cable (only port on motherboad) and then resetup the display however this obviously isnt ideal.

Basicly what happens is.

Before updated driver:

one display powered by nvidia

After updated driver:

one display powered by intel set primary | one display powered by nvidia

In both cases only 1 display is connected and is connected to the nvidia card.

Hello tbkizle,

Intel's generic graphics drivers from the Intel website do not work on some computers that support Switchable Graphics. It depends on your computer's hardware configuration.

If you encounter problems using the generic driver, Intel recommends reinstalling the latest validated driver from your computer manufacturer for your system.

I built this computer myself so the only available drivers are the generic intel ones. This is all that asus provides for my Motherboard.

So, one of the display is connected to the motherboard and the other is connected to the video card?

Once you installed a graphics card on the motherboard, it will disable the Intel® HD Graphics Driver unless you have a feature on your system(BIOS) that will allow you to choose between the graphics components.

no i have one display and its connected to the video card. No other displays. Which is the issue

with the older driver(10.18.10.3960) in windows display settings

Dont know what the display settings are because i cant see anything because the second display isnt primary. Only reason i know this much about the configuration is because i managed to blindly drag a window from the left to the right and it showed up on my display.

Edit: confirmed this by attaching the display to motherboard.

Basically the display detection code in the driver versions somewhere around 3961-4293 was detecting a display that didnt exist and setting it as primary(see attached image).

I haven't been able to confirm working versions if any under windows 10. Other than the "default" one does not work(dont know version number ill have to reinstall win10 to get more detail) im guessing version >=4294 has the same working display detection code as in the win8.1 driver code.

Please give it a try with the latest graphics version, https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25489/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-15-40-4th-Gen- Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 [15.40][4th Gen].

If the issue persist please fill out the following form . and post it here, so we can investigate about this issue.

Yes i can confirm the windows 10 154010.4300 driver works as well.

Thank you for reporting this.

Now, checking the picture you attached I noticed that the picture belongs to Windows Screen Resolution and that the fact that you see two display is completely related with the multi monitor function of the Nvidia card, if our driver presents this intermittent issue it's because our driver is generic and the performance of it will depend on your computer's hardware configuration, which is something that you tested with the previous and latest versions.
