so i have an acer laptop i got off tiger direct about 2 months ago. it works great for everything. then about a week ago, OpenGl stopped recognizing my graphics card, and i thought, well thats weird.... so here i am xD i have spent 5+ researching and talking to acer about a fix but to no avail. 😕 i currently have an Intel hd 5500 graphics build into a Intel I5 5200 processor dual core at 2.2 ghz. and i have a 1tb hard drive. the graphics driver for it is currently, 10.18.15.4248 and so far, i cannot install anything other than this driver for windows 10. i considering reverting to windows 8.1, but i have my hopes i can keep windows 10.
any help?

Try with this driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25308/Intel-Iris-Iris-Pro-and-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-4th-Gen-Windows-10-64bit Download Intel® Iris™, Iris™ Pro, and HD Graphics Driver for 4th Gen Windows* 10 64bit
But anyway that Intel's OpenGL leaves much to be desired in general terms: /
Good luck.

it responded with "this driver is not compatible with this device. please obtain the appropriate driver from your computer manufacturer." is there a backdoor way to install this?

Please install and run a https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/7838/Intel-Processor-Identification-Utility-Windows-Version https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/7838/Intel-Processor-Identification-Utility-Windows-Version , and tell us the result, because of errors you reported and driver version 10.18.15.4248, that cannot support Broadwell-gen CPUs.

Any help? i have contacted acer and reported the issue, but they are no help and keep giving me the "i can phone you over to paid support" option which i would rather not do. is intel going to come out with a driver specifically for hd 5500? im also considering reverting to windows 8.1 and seeing if that helps, but i doubt it will. Any Help At ALL will be appreciated.

Just need to make sure you are downloading the proper driver for your operating system version, either 32 or 64 bit.
