So maybe my computer is just finicky, but sometimes when I connect my laptop to my TV using an HDMI cable and an HDMI-Displayport adapter, video works perfectly but I can't get audio from the TV. There is no TV listed under playback devices even when I have disabled devices shown, and the Intel Graphics Properties page recognizes the TV but also says "The Active displays do not have audio capability."
Other times, the connection works perfectly and I get great sound through my TV without any issues at all. How can I get the TV to consistently be recognized by my computer as having audio capability?

May I know what the system information is? Please attach here the dxdiag report. How to get it?
Dxdiag Report: Type dxdiag in Start Menu> open> Save> Attach using Advanced Editor Options.

Hi Kevin,
I attached the Dxdiag file to this reply. I also wanted to correct a mistake I made in the original question. The port is actually mini displayport.
I'm going to try some troubleshooting with different hdmi cables and computers to see if I can pinpoint the issue.
Thanks for the help!

Hello slightlylessobvious,
Thank you for sharing this information.
As first step, I would like you to update the graphics driver. You can download the second file (64-bit) from the following link:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24937 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24937
If you encounter problems during the installation of the driver, try the steps mentioned here:
/docs/DOC-22542 https://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-22542
It is important to say that the graphics driver provided above also installs the latest audio driver we have available so hopefully this issue will be resolved by doing this.

Hi Kevin,
So I get back from work today and plug my laptop in to the TV, and again the TV does not appear as a playback device. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver again, making sure to delete the files, but still it doesn't work. Any other ideas?

Please make sure the cable is not broken and if possible try another DP cable. If the TV has different DP ports, try using other DisplayPort outputs.

So there are 2 HDMI ports on the TV and neither are working. I've tried different HDMI cables and still get the varying degrees of success-sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
I have tried using other computers and just doing a straight HDMI-HDMI with no issues, but I haven't tried another computer with minidisplayport, so I'll try that.
One thing worth noting is that I haven't had any problems at all when connecting the same machine while running ubuntu instead of Windows 8.1, so my guess would be that it's a problem with Windows instead of anything else.
