Non raid volume in raid array

Hi all,

I have a Asus P7P55D-EVO mainboard with P55 chipset.

I'm using Intel Matrix Storage to configure my raid volumes.

I saw IMS was able to configure differents volumes with differents raid level into an unique disk array. For example, if I have two 500GB disks in one array, I can create one 500Go striping volume (250GB on each disk) and one 250GB mirror volume (250GB on each disk)

Now my question is:

Can I create a non raid volume in a raid array. For example, if I have one 500GB disk and one 250GB disque in my array. I want to create one 500GB striping volume (250GB on each disk) and use the 250GB remaining on the first disk to create one 250GB non raid volume.

Usually you cant. Sometimes it will give you the option of creating a RAID 0 on the space and you will be able to see it in Windows*, but that is not very common.

RAID was intended to be used with identical hard drives, even same brand and models so that they will have identical performance and one wont slow down the second one.
